埃德加·李·马斯特斯（Edgar Lee Masters，1868年8月23日—1950年3月5日）是美国诗人、传记作家、剧作家。著有《匙河集》、《新星商会和其他散文》、《歌曲和讽刺》、《大峡谷》、《旷野之蛇，不起眼的故事》、《脾》、《马克·吐温画像》、《林肯传》、《伊利诺伊诗篇》等书。马斯特斯出版了12个剧本、21本诗集、6部小说和6本传记，包括韦切尔·林赛、马克·吐温、亚伯拉罕·林肯和惠特曼的传记。

生平[编辑]

马斯特斯1868年8月23日出生于堪萨斯州加内特，是艾玛·J·德克斯特和哈丁·华莱士·马斯特斯的孩子，他的父亲曾短暂依据别处以从事法律工作。他们一家很快就搬回他祖父母的农场，在伊利诺伊州梅纳德县圣彼得堡附近。在1880年，他们搬到了伊利诺斯州刘易斯敦，在那里他就读学校，并在芝加哥每日新闻出版了他的第一部作品。刘易斯敦的文化氛围是他很多作品的灵感来源。

马斯特斯1889–1890年进入了诺克斯学院，但由于家庭经济困难被迫离开。[1]

在他父亲的律师事务所工作一段时间后，他获得伊利诺伊州的律师执业资格，搬到了芝加哥，他于1893年在那里与Kickham Scanlan律师事务所建立了法律合伙人关系。他结过两次婚。1898年，他与海伦·詹金斯在芝加哥一个律师的女儿结婚，并育有三个孩子。在他1903年至1908年与克拉伦斯·达罗的法律合伙人关系中，他捍卫穷人的利益。1911年，他开了自己的律师事务所，尽管有三年的动荡（1908-1911），因婚外情和与达罗的争吵。
