非洲牛箱头蛙（学名：Pyxicephalus adspersus），又称非洲牛蛙，是箱头蛙属下的一种淡水蛙，分布于撒哈拉以南的非洲地区。非洲牛箱头蛙身形很大，雄蛙体重可超2千克（4.4磅），体长可达23 cm（9.1英寸），雌性则只有雄性的一半大。[2][3]
习性[编辑]
非洲牛箱头蛙以昆虫、小型啮齿动物、爬行动物、鸟类或其他两栖类为食[2]，此外也存在同类相食的现象，雄蛙偶尔会吃掉自己保护的蝌蚪[4]。其食量很大，南非比勒陀利亚动物园的一头非洲牛箱头蛙曾创下吃掉17条小唾蛇的记录[5]。
它们在紧张时会发出巨大的叫声，受到威胁时会用尖利的牙齿攻击敌人，有人类被其咬伤的记录。[6]
它们旱季时藏身泥中夏眠。
宠物贸易[编辑]
非洲牛箱头蛙被卖到非洲以外的很多国家作为宠物饲养，饲养的非洲牛箱头蛙预期寿命在35年以内。[2]
