北方巨恐鸟（学名：Dinornis novaezealandiae）是一种已绝迹的巨型鸟类。其种加词“novaezealandiae”意为“新西兰的”。

这是一种平胸鸟是鸵鸟的近亲。和鸵鸟一样是不会飞的鸟。北方巨型恐鸟的起源可能是因为它们的早期祖先能够飞行并飞到新西兰北岛。
灭绝[编辑]
在新克里多尼亚人到新西兰前，有好几种恐鸟住在新西兰，但当毛利人(新克里多尼亚人的新西兰分支)抵达新西兰后，恐鸟陆续消失，本种因体性巨大，高达3米，可能在12、13世纪就灭绝了，但也有学者认为到18世纪之前仍有族群存在于新西兰北岛的森林中。
