休姆出生于伦敦，她的父亲是一位名叫亨利·雷恩斯福德·赫尔姆（英语：Henry Rainsford Hulme）的物理学家。曾担任利物浦大学教授、格林尼治皇家天文台副台长、海军作战分析员和空军科学顾问。并担任重要职务官僚等职位。由于在年幼时被诊断出患有肺结核，所以休姆自小被送到加勒比海、南非和新西兰等地休养，希望在更温暖的气候下能改善他的健康状况。[1]在奥克兰，一家报社发现了他于1948年抵达新西兰的照片，这张照片后来被介绍在奥克兰图书馆员工的博客《Heritage et AL》中。[2]

随着她的父亲成为坎特伯雷大学的学院校长，休姆重新与家人团聚。并就读于位于克兰默中心的克莱斯特彻奇女子高中（英语：Christchurch Girls' High School）。[3][1]

霍诺拉·里珀谋杀案[编辑]

1954年6月，年仅15岁的休姆和她最好的朋友宝琳·帕克（Pauline Parker）谋杀了帕克的母亲霍诺拉·里珀（Honorah Rieper）[4][5]。当时佩里的父母正在分居程序中，他原本打算前往南非与亲戚一起居住。这两位朋友在共处许久后，都渴望着创造，沉迷于幻想、并共同创造了一个复杂的幻想世界，其中包含幻想与许多名人相处，例如马利奥·兰沙和詹姆士·梅逊等人。当得知佩里父母的状况后，她们两人不愿意被分开。[6][1][7]

1954年6月22日，两名少女和里珀在基督城的克莱斯特彻奇港山丘上的基督城维多利亚公园（英语：Victoria_Park,_Christchurch）散步。在一条偏僻的小路上，休姆扔掉了一块装饰用的石头，使里珀弯腰捡拾。而帕克使用半块砖块包裹着袜子向母亲攻击。两名少女原本认为只需一击就能杀死她，但事实上他们不断殴打里佩尔20多次，直至她断气死亡。[6]虽然他们试图将里珀的死伪装成意外死亡，但由于情况太不自然了，警方因伪装不佳而对两人进行了追捕，最终两名少女被捕并承认了罪行。

同年，帕克和休姆在基督城受审，法庭则根据记载沉迷的幻想、以及密谋杀害母亲的情节的日记作为庭审控方的证据。并于8月28日被判有罪。由于根据当时的新西兰法律，由于他们的年纪太过于年轻，并不符合死刑的标准，因此被判定并被由女王陛下发落“无限期监禁”。休姆在少管所学习外语、编织、写小说，帕克则积极努力考取高中文凭、职业培训等各种资格。五年后，她们以“永远不再见面为条件。”分别获得假释。[8]在休姆于2023年去世时，人们普遍认为两人自审判以来没有任何联系。[9][10]


这起事件成为1994年电影《梦幻天堂（1994年电影）（英语：Heavenly_Creatures）》的基础，梅兰妮·林斯基饰演少年时期的宝琳·帕克，凯特·温斯蕾则饰演青少年时期的茱丽叶·休姆。在电影上映时，人们通常不知道“安妮·佩里”就是事件的主犯休姆；直到几个月后才公开身份。尽管有些人认为休姆和帕克之间的关系是同性恋，但休姆在2006年曾公开声明，尽管两人的关系痴迷，但他们“从未是女同性恋者”。[10]

1959年11月，休姆出狱后回到英格兰，成为一名空中乘务员。[11]她后来曾在美国居住一段时间，于1968年加入末日圣徒耶稣基督教会。[12]后来定居在苏格兰的波特马霍马克村，与她的母亲一起生活。她的父亲后来曾参与英国氢弹计划（英语：British_hydrogen_bomb_programme）。[13]
