2，它是無色蠟狀或油狀物。它和金屬離子結合可以形成有色的衍生物。[1] [2]它的性質和1,2-苯二硫酚相似，但是由於更便宜而使用得更多。
它可以在硫醇-二硫化物反應中用作探針。[3]
