巴罗环形山(Barrow)是月球正面北极区一座古老的大撞击坑,约形成于45.5-39.2亿年前的前酒海纪[1],其名称取十七世纪英国数学家、物理学家及神学家,著名科学家牛顿的老师"伊萨克·巴罗"(Isaac Barrow,1630年-167年),该名称最初由十九世纪德国天文学家"约翰·海因里希·冯·马德勒"(Johann Heinrich von Mädler)所提出[2][3],1935年被国际天文学联合会正式批准接受[4]。
描述
该陨坑靠近月球北侧边沿,其位置介于西北的戈尔德施米特环形山和东北不规则的默冬环形山之间,西南方则坐落了威·邦德环形山、小陨坑厄尔兰格(Erlanger)和菲比格(Fibiger)位于它的东北、它的西南坑壁上则横跨了焦亚陨石坑[5]。该陨坑中心月面坐标为71°17′N 7°35′E / 71.28°N 7.59°E[4],直径93.82公里[6],深度约2.84公里[1]。
巴罗环形山坑壁已被后续的撞击以及切入的陨坑严重侵蚀和更改,其外观破碎、断裂,类似一圈环坑底的山脊和山峰,其中西南壁横跨了一座更年轻撞击坑-直径27公里的卫星坑"巴罗 A";东南壁并入了直径17公里的残迹坑-"巴罗 B";东侧坑壁一道狭窄的裂谷连通了卫星坑"默冬 F"的坑底;而西侧和西北壁高耸峻峭,部分壁顶与坑底落差达3400米,宽厚连绵的西北外壁一直伸展连接到戈尔德施米特环形山。巴罗环形山坑壁平均高出周边地形1440米,内部容积约8562公里3[1]。坑内已被熔岩流掩没抚平,形成一块平坦、散布着众多微小浅坑的坑底,一些来自西面阿那克萨哥拉环形山(Anaxagoras)淡淡的射纹束穿过了它的坑底。

1645年,佛兰芒天文学家"米迦勒·弗洛伦特·范·朗伦"((Michel Florent van Langren)曾将它命名为"阿马尔菲"(Amalfi)[11][3]。处于晨昏圈上的巴罗环形山是清晨最有趣的观察对象之一[12],当阳光照射在它东侧坑壁上数公里长的裂口时,会在巴罗环形山坑底投下一道狭长的亮光[13]。
