在 1978-1989 年間，斐莉是萬神殿書屋出版社的藝術總監，此時她避免使用標準字體，而偏好替每一件書封建立獨特的字形。她替瑪格麗特·杜拉斯的暢銷書《愛人》所設計的書封大獲成功，讓她在萬神殿書屋得到更多的創作自由。她在這家出版社的工作生涯中總共設計了接近兩千本書。[2]

1989 年，她建立了自己的工作室，路薏絲·斐莉有限公司，專營餐廳商標與食品包裝的設計。路薏絲說：「我開始創業時幾乎什麼都不知道。我只知道要維持小規模，同時也一直如此。我也想要專注在三件我感興趣的東西上：食物、字型以及有關義大利的所有東西。」[3] 在那個時代，女性經營的公司非常少，所以她知道用自己的名字來替公司命名可能會帶來不便。不過她決定要發出訊息：「如果你對我身為女性有意見，那我就不要你來當我的客戶。」[4] 她替紐約市的許多小餐廳設計過商標，像是 Picholine, Artisanal, The Mermaid Inn, 以及 Via Carota 等等，並且替 Sarabeth’s, Tate’s 與 Bella Cucina 設計過包裝。她的幾何型設計—經常是方形外觀—顯示出她對歐洲現代主義的偏好，特別是，盧西恩·伯恩哈德、卡桑德爾、和讓·卡呂以及 1930 年代的義大利風格海報。

2009 年她重新設計 Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval（英语：Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval） 一百週年紀念專刊。

2004 年，斐莉進入藝術總監俱樂部名人堂。2015 年，她獲得樣式總監俱樂部頒發的終生成就獎。她也獲得三次詹姆士比爾德獎提名，而自 1998 年開始，她就是國際平面設計聯盟的成員。

斐莉在視覺藝術學院教了超過 20 年的書，在大學部與研究所課程開課，同時每個夏天都會在羅馬的 SVA 大師工作坊開課。
