喬治·賽勒斯·索普1875年1月7日出生於明尼蘇達州諾斯菲爾德。

1903-1904年間，喬治·賽勒斯·索普上尉在美國駐埃塞俄比亞帝國外交使領館中擔任陸戰隊衛兵指揮官職務，並給孟尼利克二世拍照。^[4]^[5]
