冠雉屬（學名：Penelope）為雞形目鳳冠雉科的一個屬。[2]本屬鳥類均分佈於中、南美洲，目前下屬16個物種。[2]
命名歷史[編輯]
該屬是由德國動物學家布拉敘斯·梅瑞姆於1786年建立的屬。[3]其模式種由法國自然學家勒內-普里梅韋勒·萊松指定為綠背冠雉。[1]屬名Penelope來自拉丁語pene（意指「幾乎、接近」）及古希臘語的λόφος（羅馬化：lophos，意指「頭冠」）。[4]在分類學上，這個屬可能是肉垂冠雉屬的近親，兩者約在15—20百萬年前各自演化。[5]
