自2023年5月2日開始，美國影視產業發生了一系列勞資糾紛，而其中又主要集中在美國編劇工會和演員工會-美國電視和廣播藝人聯合會所領導的兩場罷工上。這是荷里活這兩家行業工會第二次聯合舉行罷工，上次還要追溯到1960年（英語：1960 Writers Guild of America strike）；這使得媒體在報道中使用了「荷里活雙重罷工（Hollywood Double Strike）」這個名詞。[5][6][7]

2023年美國編劇協會大罷工是代表11,500名編劇[4]的美國編劇工會因與影視製片人聯盟持續存在的勞資糾紛而進行的罷工。罷工於2023年5月2日太平洋時區夏令時凌晨0點1分正式開始。[13][14] 本次罷工是美國影視產業自2020年COVID-19大流行（英語：Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on television in the United States）以來的最大規模中斷事件，也是美國編劇工會自2007年—2008年大罷工之後的最大規模停工。[9][15]

2023 年演員罷工涉及演員工會-美國電視和廣播藝人聯合會（SAG-AFTRA）和電影和電視製片人聯盟（AMPTP） 之間的糾紛。經 SAG-AFTRA 全國董事會投票批准通過後，罷工於2023年7月14日太平洋夏令時午夜時分開始。此次罷工是自1980年演員罷工（英語：1980 actors strike）以來，荷里活演員首次因勞資糾紛發起抗議。

美國導演協會、美國製片人協會、演員權益協會（英語：Actors' Equity Association）、 UNITE HERE（英語：UNITE HERE） Local 11、英國演員權益協會（英語：Equity (British trade union)）、國際卡車司機兄弟會、美國音樂家聯合會（英語：American Federation of Musicians）、荷里活基本工藝協會、國際戲劇舞台雇員聯盟（英語：International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees）、美國東部作家協會（英語：Writers Guild of America, East）及加拿大電影、電視和廣播藝術家聯盟（英語：Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists）在SAG-AFTRA宣佈計劃加入WGA罷工後，都發表了支持聲明 [16] [17] [18] [19] [20]。Vox新聞網站表示，其他荷里活工會對罷工者表現出的團結支持是非同尋常的，「與2007 年的上一次罷工時的反應形成鮮明對比」[21]。另據《商業內幕》指出，此次勞工糾紛顯示出了近期日趨強大的勞工運動趨勢[22]。
