同時，他是保守主義的其中一位歌手。劉易斯反對美國政府拆除歷史人物的雕像，就和鄉村音樂歌手布魯斯·史賓斯汀有一點相似。[4] 劉易斯所寫單曲和兩位音樂創作人，伊拉·迪恩（為Trick Pony的成員）及Jeffrey Steele合作；這也是迪恩和劉易斯首次所創作的單曲。[5] 該歌曲的風格為原謠曲。[6]
