狮子座R是位于狮子座的一颗米拉型变星的红巨星，与地球距离大约300光年。
狮子座R的变光周期为312天，视星等最亮时为肉眼可见的4.31等，最暗时为11.65等，必须借助于口径7公分以上的望远镜才能见到。估计它的表面有效温度为2,890K，半径跨度为299太阳半径（208,000,000公里; 1.39天文单位）[2]，大致到达火星的轨道区。
可能的行星[编辑]
在2009年，威塞迈尔（Wiesemeyer）等人[4]建议观测到的狮子座R光度准周期性的波动可能是因为存在着一颗被蒸发的次恒星天体，可能是颗太阳系外行星。他们推算出这个疑似天体的质量是木星的两倍，轨道周期为5.2年，轨道半径可能是2.7天文单位。
如果得到证实，这样的天体可能是一颗蒸发中的行星，会拖着彗尾般地长长轨迹，并暗示会有强烈的SiO迈射辐射出来。
