惧河马（学名：Hippopotamus gorgops）为一种已灭绝的河马，最早出现于上新世晚期的非洲，最终于更新世早期拓展至欧洲，于更新世中期时灭绝[1]。
描述[编辑]
惧河马体长达 4.3米（14英尺），肩高 2.1米（6.9英尺），体重 3,900千克（8,600英磅）；整体体型远大于现存的河马。另一个与现存河马最大不同的特征在于它们眼睛的位置，现存河马的眼睛位于头颅骨高处，而惧河马的眼框则更为突出，形成类似眼柄的构造，让它们沉在水中时也能轻易地观察周遭环境[2]。惧河马由德国科学家 Wilhelm Otto Dietrich 于 1928 年进行发表与命名[3]。
