失事客机是一架编号为LV-WEG的麦道DC-9-32，[2][1][6]于1969年首飞，[2]事发时机龄28年，原先服役于西班牙国家航空，编号为EC-BQT。
原因[编辑]
据阿根廷空军和乌拉圭空军的调查显示，飞机在通过积雨云时，皮托管的冻结引发了空速表数据不准，导致机师操作失误。[2]
