作業系統市佔率，是指在電子計算裝置中運行作業系統的市場占有比例。作業系統市佔率常因使用者升級、降級或更換使用之裝置而產生變化。目前全球使用人數最多的作業系統為Google公司推出的Android，截至2017年擁有超過26億名用戶[2]；微軟公司推出的Windows作業系統則有超過14億名用戶，是個人電腦市佔率最高之作業系統。

Windows自1990年代起，因為個人電腦的興起，曾稱霸作業系統市場達10餘年[3][4]；隨著近年行動裝置興起，行動裝置作業系統如Android、iOS等用戶大幅增加，Android更於2017年超越Windows，成為使用人數最多的作業系統[5][6]，宣告電腦主宰市場的時代逐漸終結[7]。

值得注意的是，由於精確計算作業系統的使用人數十分困難，市場調查公司多利用間接數據如聯網裝置數、裝置銷售量等估計作業系統市占率，因此最終得出的數據並不會完全準確。

個人電腦市場部分，微軟推出的Windows作業系統一直是市場的領導者，根據2023年4月Statcounter的調查，Windows市佔率高達62.65%，大幅領先主要競爭對手macOS的17.79%。[9]

这些信息是从互联网浏览器的用户代理字符串推导出的。 这并不完全可靠， 因为：

  • 互联网浏览器并不总是提供准确的信息给服务器。
  • 报告也许只是针对某些专门的操作系统。
  • 很多电脑因为防火墙或者过滤器而不能浏览一些网站。
  • 有些电脑并未与互联网连接。
  • 有些电脑同时运行多个操作系统（模拟）或者不同时间运行不同的操作系统（多次重启动）
  • 统计方法（网站列表，操作系统的判定，时段的计算，个体的访问用户，网页的点击或者网站的点击）也许并未完全符合电脑这个领域。
  • 某个电脑也许会被统计多次，而其他的却没有被统计。
  • 使用某个操作系统的用户也许在其他电脑上运行另外的操作系统。

例如，以下数据显示Linux 只有0.8%的使用份额，是由IDC （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆）， Gartner（页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆）做出的调查。而其他的调查则显示Linux的使用份额远远高于这个数字。 W3schools.com的网站统计显示出2007，Linux使用份额3.4%，远大于0.8%。 源网站出现的操作系统也包括在内，并且最大占有至少0.1% 的份额。
