此列表為列出目前國際間利用水壩阻擋水流來進行電力生產的慣常式水力發電廠。該列表主要涵蓋了商轉中裝置容量大於1,000 MW 以及正在興建中的慣常式水力發電廠。而裝置容量小於 1,000 MW以及正在規劃中的慣常式水力發電廠則列在頁尾中的地區列表中。
截至2013年,國際間裝置容量最大的慣常式水力發電廠是中國的長江三峽大壩,其總裝置容量額定功率最高為22,500 MW。而位在巴西與巴拉圭交界的伊泰普水壩是一座裝置容量高達14,000 MW的慣常式水力發電廠,曾在2007年12月7日被評為當時世上建造最大的水力發電設施,該水壩高181米(594英尺),全長2,335米(7,661英尺),以及寬115米(377英尺)。發電廠內共裝置額定輸出為700 MW的32部水輪機,並且其中用來供應發電廠本身內部裝置的2部水輪機的額定輸出為50 MW,伊泰普水壩於1994年開始動工興建,於2012年完工商轉發電,期間將近耗費20年的時間來施工興建。 排在三峽大壩之後的三座大型慣常式水力發電廠為伊泰普水壩水力發電廠,古麗水壩水力發電廠以及圖庫魯伊水壩水力發電廠,其裝置容量額定輸出功率分別為14,000 MW,10,200 MW以及8,370 MW。上述中的四座水壩分別是日本柏崎刈羽核能發電廠(裝置容量:8,212 MW)商轉之前最大的不可再生能源發電設施。而目前在剛果計畫興建的大因加水電站其裝置容量將高過中國三峽大壩將近兩倍來到39,000 MW,將會超越當前三峽大壩裝置容量的22,500 MW。
