故事背景设定于美国西维吉尼亚州的虚构城市空心视界（Hollow Watch）中，讲述非二元性别的神秘生物塞勒姆，没有核心身份或性别，为了探索自己真实身份而展开冒险。一本附魔的书、摄影师奥利佛和灵媒佩特拉加入了塞勒姆的这趟旅途，众人共同穿梭于“妖精、地精和其他神秘世界”。[5][6]

2020年1月23日，索耶在AMA（英语：r/IAmA）上表示，该剧“有望于2021年初”在YouTube上发行，但如果未能成功，它将被发表到每个人都能观赏首集的网站上[9]。一年后（2021年1月），随着亚当·麦卡尔斯发推文说他见过试播集后，索耶在推特上回应粉丝对于发行日的疑问：“尚未正式发布，但离我们越来越近。”[25]
