故事背景发生在北卡罗莱纳州阿拉曼斯郡，讲述赫斯比农庄里剥削劳工等劳工权益议题、富有但婚姻却载浮载沉的科茨家之保姆权益以及社工凯玛拉在辅导特殊受害者的同时，亦面临到的自身生育问题。[2]
