[编辑]2017年6月，宣布查德·史塔赫斯基和德瑞克·柯斯达打算推出一部有著《捍卫任务》角色的电视剧，狮门影业将其暂定名为《The Continental》[2]。该剧主要叙述著电影中的大陆饭店，以及来到此休息的各种杀手、地下人士。同年，据报导，电影主演基努·李维有望再次饰演约翰·维克一角[3][4]。
2018年1月，该剧由Starz频道负责发展。克里斯·柯林斯将担任该剧的统筹和编剧，而大卫·雷奇、史塔赫斯基、李维都将担任执行制片人；此外，史塔赫斯基也会执导试播集[5]。2019年7月，官方证实该剧设定于系列电影的前传。经过一段时间的延迟后，官方于2020年1月中旬宣布该剧定于2021年推出。2021年4月，狮门宣布该剧将围绕1970年代的年轻版温斯顿展开。第一季以三集90分钟剧集组成。[6]格雷格·柯立芝、柯克·沃德和萧恩·西蒙斯的构想被狮门采用，他们成为影集的开发者及制片人，[7]亚伯·休斯和夏洛特·布兰斯特罗姆受聘担任导演[8][9]。
