3。它的無水物可由硝酸鉍和碘酸反應，將所得沉澱溶解在7.8 mol/L硝酸中，70 °C加熱揮髮結晶得到；^[2]二水合物由硝酸鉍和碘酸鉀或碘酸鈉在7 mol/L硝酸中於50 °C揮髮結晶得到。^[1]它的鹼式鹽BiOIO₃是已知的。^[3]
