奥林匹克运动会田径纪录从1896年开始被记录

奥林匹克运动会田径纪录由国际奥林匹克委员会发布。现代夏季奥林匹克运动会自1896年第一届以来，每四年举办一次（除1916年因第一次世界大战，1940年和1944年因第二次世界大战取消外）。每届奥运会进行的田径项目分为四组：径赛项目（包括短跑、中长跑、跨栏和接力赛），田赛项目（包括铅球、铁饼、链球、撑杆跳高、立定跳远和三级跳远），公路项目（包括竞走和马拉松）和综合项目（包括七项全能和十项全能）。[1]女子参加23个田径项目的比赛，[2]男子参加24个项目的比赛，其中21个项目男女都一样。不同的是男子参加50公里竞走；女子综合项目是七项全能，而男子的是十项全能；女子短距离跨栏的比赛距离是100米，比男子跨栏项目短10米。[1]

一些奥运田径纪录曾被打破，但后来被国际奥委会取消。1988年，加拿大短跑运动员本·约翰逊打破了100米的奥运会纪录和世界纪录，但后来他被发现使用了同化類固醇兴奋剂来提高成绩，因此纪录被取消。[3]匈牙利运动员罗伯特·费泽克斯（英语：Róbert Fazekas）在2004年打破了男子铁饼的奥运会纪录，但后来被认为「违反了反兴奋剂规则」，被剥夺了金牌和纪录。[4][5]

现代奥运会田径项目纪录中保持时间最长的是跳远，该纪录由鲍勃·比蒙在1968年夏季奥运会男子跳远比赛中创造，[6]比蒙当时跳出了8.90米的成绩，比当时的世界纪录远55厘米。这项世界纪录保持了23年之久，直到迈克·鲍威尔在1991年东京田径世锦赛上打破该纪录。[7]2020年奥运会期间，有4项男子纪录和3项女子纪录被打破，另外创造一项新的男女混合项目纪录。
