天鹅座X是在星座天鹅座北部的一颗变星,英文缩写为X Cyg。这是一颗仙王座δ型变星,其视星等的亮度范围从5.85到6.91的,周期为16.386332天[3]。在最亮的时候,这颗恒星肉眼隐约可见。根据视差的量测,到这颗恒星的距离约为628光年[2]。它正以8.1km/s的径向速度远离我们[5]。这颗恒星很可能是疏散星团鲁普雷希特173的成员[12]。
这颗恒星的变星光度是由小赛斯·卡罗·钱德勒于1886年发现的[13]。在1907年,埃德温·布兰特·弗罗斯特表明,天鹅座X是一颗F型恒星,具有不同的径向速度,其行为类似于仙王座δ变星[14]。米歇尔·路易泽在1912年发现,这种变化的周期为16.38543天[15]。在1919年,弗兰克·克雷格·乔丹确定恒星的色指数在每个周期中都会发生变化,随着恒星变暗而变红[16]。它被确定为满足简单周光关系的基准恒星类别经典造父变星的成员[17]。
在1954年,罗伯特·克拉夫特在峰值亮度下发现其恒星分类为F7-Ib[18],与F型超巨星的光谱相匹配。这颗恒星的光谱类型在脉动周期中变化,在最小亮度下低至G8 Ib[4]。在1956年,克拉夫特发现某些谱线加倍,他解释说这是由于之前的脉动周期中,物质壳下落与光球碰撞的结果[19]。与大多数造父变星在每个周期经历一次冲击不同,天鹅座X被发现经历了一次双重冲击[20]。
现时还没有发现轨道周期在十年或更短的伴星[21]。这颗恒星显示出卷云,并初步证明了红外的长期发射[22]。
