它被认为是天鹅座OB1星协的成员,其中有疏散星团伯克利87英语Berkeley 87[9],位于距离太阳系1,673秒差距(5,000光年)之处[10]。它位于另一个红超巨星天鹅座BI以北不到一度的地方[来源请求]。根据其盖亚目录的视差,它的距离大约在1,700 pc.[1]

计算得到天鹅座BC的有效温度在2,858至3,614K,并且光度在112,000到145,000 L之间变化。最亮和最冷时的大小被计算为1,553 R,而最热和最暗时的大小为856 R。它是已知最大的恒星之一。如果它取代太阳的位置,假设最大半径为1553 R,其光球将吞噬木星的轨道。其质量约为19 M,据估计,恒星质量损失,如尘埃,原子和分子气体为每年3.2×10−9 M[11]
