空洞星系

MCG+01-02-015是典型的空洞星系。如果本銀河系位於該星系的位置，人類在1960年代以前都不會知道宇宙中其他星系的存在[1]。

空洞星系是存在於宇宙空洞中的星系[2]。 在空洞中的星系是很罕見的。大部分的星系都存在於包圍着空洞和超空洞的纖維狀結構中[3][4]。許多空洞星系聯合起來組成了空洞纖維結構（英語：void filament），這是迷你版的常規星系纖維結構。這些結構比正常的星繫結構簡單，因為他們比較少受其他星系群的影響[5]。這些結構甚至可以多到組成星系團[6]。空洞星系被認為是研究原始星系演化的極佳的例子，因為他們很少受臨近星系影響，並從單純的星際氣體中誕生[7]。
