沃尔特·鲁丁（英语：Walter Rudin，1921年5月2日—2010年5月20日）[1]，是一位奥地利裔美国籍数学家，曾任职于威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校，在数学系担任教授。[2]

他除了贡献在复分析与调和分析方面，他还以数学分析的教科书而闻名。其编著的分析学教科书：《数学分析原理》（Principles of Mathematical Analysis）[3]、《实分析与复分析》（Real and Complex Analysis）[4]、《泛函分析》（Functional Analysis）[5]，这三本书在数学圈中的昵称依序为“小鲁丁”（Baby Rudin）、“鲁丁爸爸”（Papa Rudin）、“老鲁丁”（Grandpa Rudin）。

《数学分析原理》撰写于鲁丁自杜克大学获得博士学位后的两年，时值他在麻省理工学院担任C. L. E. Moore讲师。《数学分析原理》一书以简明洗练的风格著称[6]，自出版伊始瞬即在美国成为实分析入门课程的标准教科书。[7]

他的分析学教科书被翻译成最少13种语言风行于世界，包括俄文[8]、中文[9]、西班牙文[10]。

生平[编辑]

鲁丁在1921年出生于一个奥地利犹太家庭。在1938年德奥合并后，鲁丁一家逃至法国。1940年，德国侵略法国，鲁丁逃到英格兰并服役于皇家海军直至第二次大战结束。战后他前往美国，1947年大学毕业于北卡罗来纳州的杜克大学，他继续在杜克大学念博士班，两年后获得博士学位。博士毕业之后，鲁丁获聘为麻省理工学院的C. L. E. Moore讲师，而后曾短暂任教于罗切斯特大学，后来在威斯康星–麦迪逊大学的担任教授32年[1]。他的研究领域为调和分析与复分析。

鲁丁曾于1970年获邀在法国尼斯举行的国际数学家大会上演讲。[11]鲁丁于1993年获得勒罗伊·斯蒂尔奖，表彰其撰写的《数学分析原理》、《实分析与复分析》，现下此二书已成为经典著作。维也纳大学于2006年颁赠鲁丁荣誉学位。

1953年与知名点集拓朴学家玛丽·艾伦·埃斯蒂尔（英语：Mary Ellen Rudin）结婚。鲁丁夫妇在威斯康星州麦迪逊市的住宅名为沃尔特·鲁丁之屋（Walter Rudin House），系由名建筑师 弗兰克·劳埃德·赖特所设计。鲁丁夫妇育有四子。[12]

鲁丁患有帕金森氏病，卒于2010年5月20日。[1]
