败臼增一 (南鱼座β)在星表上是南天星座,南鱼座内的一对联星[5][6]。它的视星等为肉眼可见的4.29等[2]。依据从地球观察得到的年周视差22.84mas[1],这颗恒星与太阳的距离是143光年。它的座标位置是X射线的发射源,亮度为×1020 W,但这应该不是来自这颗 88.5A-型恒星[11],可能还有其它发射源。
Oblak(1978年)曾将其视为一颗三合星[3],但随后就将其列为联星[5][6]。它的星等为4.29[3],主星A,是一颗白色的A型主序星,类型为 A1V[4]。估计质量是2.3太阳质量[8],半径是2.1太阳半径[9]。有效温度是9,638K[9],来自光球层的发光强度是太阳亮度的37倍[8]。红外过量的证据显示它有岩屑盘,估计其轨道距离主星12AU,温度为188K[9]。伴星B的星等为7.8,恒星分类为A2V,与主星距离30.3角秒[5][6]。
败臼增一相对于太阳以每秒14.4公里的速度在银河系中移动。它投射的银河轨道让它在距离银河中心23,900至28,300光年的轨道上运动[12]。[来源可靠?]
在中国,它与败臼一(天鹤座γ)、败臼二、败臼三和败臼四组成星官败臼[13][14]。
