英国铁路484型电力动车组（英语：British Rail Class 484）是一款即将投放于英国怀特岛郡行走的电力动车组。该款列车与英国铁路230型内燃动车组同属由Vivarail公司改造伦敦地铁D78型电力动车组而成的D-Train系列列车。
背景[编辑]
怀特岛上现存的常规铁路线—海岛线，乃由岛上主要渡轮码头所在的赖德镇，沿岛屿东岸向南延伸。由于该线穿越赖德镇的一段隧道，空间比英国本土的铁路隧道狭小，因此需使用体积较小的列车行走[4]。自1967年电气化以来，海岛线一直使用伦敦地铁的退役列车提供服务。
首两代电力动车组──英国铁路485/486型电力动车组及英国铁路483型电力动车组，在运抵怀特岛时已届50高龄，而它们在岛上又先后行走了20—30年。及至2010年代，483型列车已届80高龄[1]，是英国境内车龄最高的常规载客列车[5]。483型列车至其服役末期已严重老化，原有共十列列车一度只余一列可供外出行走[6]。当地持份者对海岛线的未来状况表示关注，并曾提出各种方案取代老化的铁路，包括将铁路线改建为电车[7]或快捷巴士系统[8]等。
D-Train[编辑]
2010年代，有三款伦敦地铁列车先后退役，分别是行走大都会线的A60/62型列车[9]、行走环线与汉默史密斯及城市线的C69/77型列车[10]，以及行走区域线的D78型列车[11]。奇尔特恩铁路前主席艾德里安·舒塔有见最后退役的D78型列车仍未达到使用年限，遂成立VivaRail公司，购入退役的D78型列车车厢，将之改装及翻新后，命名为D-Train，为英国各地较偏远的线路提供全新列车以外的另一选择[12]。
最初改造的列车装设柴油发动机，编号为230型，分别获得西密德兰列车[13]以及威尔士交通局铁路采购[14]。
与此同时，Vivarail亦向其他铁路运营商推销D-Train。2018年，网上有传言指西南铁路公司派人向Vivarail接洽，研究以D-Train行走海岛线的可行性[15]。2019年9月，西南铁路公司正式宣布投资2600万英镑更新海岛线，其中包括向Vivarail购入5列2节车厢的D-Train[1]。由于海岛线本身已经电气化，因此这5列D-Train仍会以第三轨供电为动力，而其车型编号—484，亦与其所取代的483型列车看齐（以4字开头，代表直流电气化列车），而与其他D-Train的编号（以2字开头，代表柴电列车）不同。
首列484型列车于2020年11月19日运抵怀特岛[16]，其余列车则于2021年夏季开始陆续运往怀特岛并进行调试。有关当局原拟于2021年3月重开铁路，但因2019冠状病毒病英国疫情等因素而出现延宕[17]，直至2021年11月1日起配合怀特岛铁路重开而正式投入服务[2][18]。

Island Line staff have apparently visited Vivarail's facilities to enquire about these trains' suitability, but nothing has been officially stated about any outcomes. Nonetheless rumours persist of the island’s interest in these reburbished and rebuilt trains.
