澳大利亚司法部长（英語：Attorney-General of Australia，香港作澳洲律政部長）^[2]^[3]^[4]^{[註 1]} （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆），是澳洲聯邦的首席律政專員、澳洲官方的首席法律顧問及負責澳洲律政部的部長。律政部長通常是聯邦內閣成員，但並非必須如此。根據澳洲憲法，律政部長由總督在諮詢總理的意見後委任，其任期由總督酌情決定。在實踐中，律政部長是具有黨籍的政治人物，其任期受政治因素影響。按照慣例（而非憲制要求），律政部長會由受過法律專業訓練者擔任，可為大律師或事務律師。

它是自聯邦成立以來僅有的四個部長職位之一（其他三個為總理、國防部長及財政部長）^[5]。

歷史

律政部長通常都受過法律專業訓練；曾有11位前律政部長在卸任後獲得了委任為高級人員。

比利·休斯是澳洲任職時間最長的律政部長，在四個非連續任期內一共任職13年半，包括由他自己兼任總理的六年。

職分及職能

職分

律政部長是負責法律事務、國家及公眾安全的部長。律政部長還擔任澳洲內閣的總法律顧問，負責處理版權、人權和其他一系列事宜的立法。他們還負責法律改革委員會（英语：Australian Law Reform Commission）及公正執法委員會（英语：Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity）。

職能

聯邦律政部長及各州律政司的職能包括管理司法職位人選的提名過程及批准刑事檢控。在正常情況下，律政部長的刑事檢控權力由刑事檢控專員（Director of Public Prosecutions）及其下屬負責法律事務的職員行使。然而，律政部長擁有正式的控制權——包括提出及終止檢控以及接管私人檢控的權力。

⁴ Prime Minister Paul Keating's original choice for Attorney-General in 1993 had been Michael Lavarch, but Lavarch's re-election was delayed by the death of an opposing candidate for the seat of Dickson; Duncan Kerr held the portfolio in the interim until Lavarch won the resulting supplementary election. Kerr served as Attorney-General for 26 days. There was no Attorney-General for the eight days between Duffy's commission ending on 24 March 1993 and Kerr's commission commencing on 1 April 1993.
