卡帕斯出生于捷克斯洛伐克布拉迪斯拉发（今斯洛伐克）[7][8][9][10]，15岁时随家人移居多伦多[11]。他于2009年在多伦多大学获得计算机科学和物理学学士学位[12]，2011年在英属哥伦比亚大学获得硕士学位[12]，期间他从事物理模拟人物（例如，模拟跑步者或人群中的模拟人物）的研究。
