船尾螺科是由泡螺科（学名：Hydatinidae）、饰纹螺科（学名：Aplustridae）和红纹螺科（学名：Bullinidae）于2017年根据《布歇特等人的腹足类分类》合并而成[1][2]，是捻螺总科的成员；而捻螺总科亦从过往的下异鳃类改属新建立的捻螺形群（Acteonimorpha）的成员[1]。

本科物种都有大的壳口和圆的外壳唇。

栖息地[编辑]
本科物种都栖息于热带到亚热带海域的潮间带到潮下带。
习性[编辑]
本科物种的外套膜可完全收到螺壳里去，但螺厣却太小，以至无法完全覆盖壳口。当螺将外套膜缩回螺壳时，它们会将吃过的食物反刍。

2005年分类[编辑]
根据2005年《布歇特和洛克罗伊的腹足类分类，本科异鳃亚纲之下的下异鳃类非正式群组的成员，原为捻螺总科（Acteonoidea）之下的Aplustridae和Bullinidae科，亦即是除捻螺科及另外两个只有化石种的科以外的所有物种[3]。

- 饰纹螺属 Aplustrum Schumacher, 1817
- 红纹螺属 Bullina A. Férussac, 1822：又名艳捻螺属[5]，旧属后鳃目[6]红纹螺科[7]，有15个物种。
- Espinosina Ortea & Moro, 2017：旧属红纹螺科[7][8][9]，只有一个物种。
- 泡螺属 Hydatina Schumacher, 1817：旧属后鳃目或头楯目（Cephalaspidea）的泡螺科。
- Micromelo Pilsbry, 1895：旧属后鳃目[6]或头楯目[10]
- Parvaplustrum Powell, 1951
- Rictaxiella Habe, 1958：旧属红纹螺科[7]，有3个物种。
