原版任天堂DSi于2008年10月的东京任天堂秋季发表会上首次公开,并于同年11月在日本、2009年4月在欧洲北美地区正式推出{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=1}};2009年底,任天堂发售任天堂DSi大萤幕升级机型,取名为任天堂DSi LL(在海外被称为任天堂DSi XL)[8]。继任主机为2011年推出的任天堂3DS[9]

任天堂DSi的外型及规格大致与任天堂DS Lite相同,整体风格延续任天堂DS系列的双萤幕设计,不过加大了萤幕尺寸,并新增了相机功能;不过,为了减少主机厚度及制造成本,任天堂DSi取消了任天堂DS系列一贯的向下相容设计,并移除了Game Boy Advance卡匣插槽。任天堂DSi与所有的原版任天堂DS游戏皆相容,并另外拥有独立的数位游戏阵容{{en-link|DSiWare}}。任天堂DSi/DSi LL合计销量为4137万部[6],使任天堂DS系列主机之总销量达到了1亿5402万部,位居电子游戏机销量排行第二名,仅次于索尼PlayStation 2[10][11]

开发[编辑]

任天堂DSi的开发始于2006年底,开发企划人为任天堂情报开发本部的桑原雅人[12][13]。在任天堂高层要求任天堂DSi采用的芯片组规格必须在2007年初定案之下,研发时程变得十分紧缩;开发小组在寻找适当硬件规格的同时,还要克服相容性问题。据桑原雅人表示:“我们必须(在缺乏首发游戏阵容之下)单独销售任天堂DSi。因此,与原版任天堂DS游戏的相容性是必须的。”[12]相机功能于主机开发早期亦为一大重点。在开发过程中的一次会议上,时任任天堂社长岩田聪表示,任天堂DSi的萤幕有如“触觉”、麦克风则有如“听觉”;此时有人建议为主机加入“视觉”(即相机),开发小组因而决定为主机加入前后共两颗相机[12]。桑原雅人的开发小组还一度试图为相机引入旋转机能,不过最后因为技术成本及整体设计的考量而作罢。根据消费者对前代主机任天堂DS Lite的评论及感想,任天堂在此次改版中提升了麦克风的音效品质,并将上下萤幕加大[14]。但是,为了在维持主机坚固程度的情况下提升易携度,并同时考量制造成本的因素之下,任天堂DSi取消了任天堂DS系列主机一贯的向下相容设计,并移除了主机下方的Game Boy Advance卡匣插槽。不过考量到部分消费者的需求,任天堂在发布任天堂DSi/DSi LL之后,仍持续销售保有相容性的前代主机任天堂DS Lite,直到2016年任天堂DS Lite停产为止{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=2}}。

在任天堂DSi的开发过程中,一度因主机的尺寸改变而延迟了研发时程[17]。在任天堂DSi的原始设计草稿中,主机拥有两个专用卡匣插槽,使主机大小较任天堂DS Lite增加许多;在2007年下旬,设计草稿被送至任天堂情报开发本部审查,但因其大小而一度遭到驳回;不过在岩田聪及桑原雅人的坚持下,仍制造了少量原型机以供测试。最终,在经过缜密的市场分析及成本考量后,开发小组还是舍弃了双卡匣插槽设计。据岩田聪表示,这项决议下达的太晚,以至于严重耽误了主机的研发时程,使主机研发的紧迫程度甚至逼近开发一部全新掌机[15]

在开发小组决定变更设计后,重新设计任天堂DSi外壳的重责大任,就落到了主机外壳设计负责人江原唯身上[15]。他改变了主机内建扬声器的孔径,藉以缩小主机大小,并在与任天堂DS Lite做出区别的同时,保持任天堂DS系列主机“简洁”与“整齐”的特色[15]。此设计草稿获得高层采用,使用改版设计的任天堂DSi于2008年10月2日的东京任天堂秋季发表会上首次公开{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=1}}。在任天堂DSi发表时,任天堂DS系列主机在日本的销量已逐渐疲软,加上最大的竞争对手PlayStation Portable急起直追,促使任天堂迅速发售新机型以刺激主机销量[18][19][20];但对于任天堂DS Lite人气仍高的海外市场,任天堂高层决议等待时机成熟再发布主机,使得任天堂DSi直至隔年才陆续在各个海外市场发售[21][22]

早在2007年时,即有研发大萤幕版本任天堂DS Lite机型的计划出现,最终促成了任天堂DSi LL(在海外被称为任天堂DSi XL,Nintendo DSi XL)的诞生[23][24]。此大萤幕版本任天堂DS Lite机型的上下萤幕尺寸皆达3.8英寸(97毫米),开发进度并已达到可大量生产的情况。不过,在时任任天堂社长岩田聪的决议之下,此计划被暂时停止[24]。后来,岩田聪提出了同时发售正常版及大萤幕版本任天堂DSi的计划,不过当时任天堂的硬件开发小组已因为任天堂DSi的设计变更而陷入困境,更何况要同时研发正常版及大萤幕版本的任天堂DSi;因此直到任天堂DSi发售之后,桑原雅人及其开发小组才有余力开始专注于大萤幕版本任天堂DSi的研发[24]。在开发过程中,舆论对此版本任天堂DSi的名称有着诸多揣测,具体包括“任天堂DSi Comfort”、“任天堂DSi Executive”、“任天堂DSi Premium”及“任天堂DSi Living”等[25]。2009年10月,任天堂首次公布大萤幕版本任天堂DSi的详细资讯,并正式取名为任天堂DSi LL(在海外被称为任天堂DSi XL,Nintendo DSi XL)[8]。任天堂DSi LL的萤幕尺寸较任天堂DSi大,达4.2吋(110毫米),萤幕可视角度也较前代机型提升,使用户不必持续以特定角度注视主机萤幕[24][26]。 {{Clear}}

发售[编辑]

2008年11月1日,任天堂DSi于日本、2009年4月3日于欧洲发售,首发颜色皆包括白色黑色[1][2]{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=5}};2009年4月5日,任天堂DSi于北美地区发售,首发颜色为黑色及蓝色,首发游戏为《节奏天国 黄金版[3][27];2009年12月15日,任天堂DSi以“神游iQue DSi”的名义引进中国大陆,首发颜色包括白色及黑色,首发游戏为《任天狗狗[4][28][29]

日本任天堂准备了20万部任天堂DSi作为首发库存,结果首日即售出超过17万部{{Notetag|根据Enterbrain的估计为170,779部[30]Media Create的估计则为171,925部[31]。|name=Japanese launch}},其它3万部也皆被预订[32]。至2008年11月底,任天堂DSi销量已达53.5万部,只略落后于同时期任天堂DS Lite的55万部[33];在首发两天内,北美及欧洲的任天堂DSi销量合计已达60万部[34],北美的任天堂DSi首周销量甚至达同时期任天堂DS Lite销量的两倍,来到了43.5万部[35]

任天堂为任天堂DSi举办了许多活动,包括在纽约任天堂世界旗舰店及洛杉矶的{{En-link|环球城市大道|Universal CityWalk}}举办官方的首发活动[27][36][37][38],多达150人彻夜等待GameStop及其他零售通路引进任天堂DSi[39]。另外,一部由知名积木艺术家{{En-link|西恩·肯尼|Sean Kenney (artist)}}(Sean Kenney)制作,以乐高积木组成的大型任天堂DSi模型也同时在纽约任天堂世界展出[40]

2009年11月21日,任天堂DSi LL于日本发售,首发颜色包括{{En-link|青铜色|Bronze (color)}}、酒红色和白色[8];任天堂DSi XL则于2010年3月5日在欧洲、3月28日在北美发售,首发颜色皆包括青铜色及酒红色[41][42]。在首发两天内,日本的任天堂DSi LL销量已达10万部{{Notetag|根据Enterbrain的估计为103,524部[43];Media Create的估计则为100,553部[44]。|name=XL Japanese launch}};北美方面则在首发三天内,售出了14.1万部任天堂DSi XL[45]

2010年3月23日,为在该年E3电子娱乐展前吸引媒体及消费者的注意,任天堂提前发表了任天堂DS系列的继任者任天堂3DS[46][47]。此举大幅影响了任天堂DSi XL在北美的销量。M2研究的分析师比利·皮吉昂(Billy Pigeon)表示:“在日本,(任天堂)DSi XL(LL)已推出将近一季,日本任天堂总部可能因此而忽略了北美地区的实际情形,而误判了(任天堂)3DS的公布时机。”[46]许多任天堂股东及投资者因而质疑任天堂高层的决策,时任任天堂社长岩田聪对此则解释:“那些想要在发表会结束后立即入手任天堂3DS的人,多半对电子游戏界已非常熟悉;而那些购买任天堂DSi LL(XL)的人则多半不会深入了解现况。”[47][48]

相较于任天堂的前代掌上游戏机Game Boy系列任天堂DS系列锁定的消费者年龄层更加的广大[49]{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=1}}。在与当时电子游戏机销量排行第一的家用游戏机索尼PlayStation 2比较后[50],任天堂认为其任天堂DS系列仍具有发展潜力,因而促成了任天堂DSi/DSi LL的产生[51]。据时任任天堂社长岩田聪表示,由于多数家庭只共同使用一部任天堂DS任天堂DS Lite,因此为使每位家庭成员皆购买游戏机,任天堂为任天堂DSi加入了许多个人化功能[51]

任天堂DSi名称内的“i”可解释为“单一个体”(I)或“相机(眼睛)”(Eyes),其中单一个体的涵义与当时任天堂推出的家用游戏机Wii正好相反,其名称内的两个“i”为“让大家聚在一起”的意思[52][53][54]。据美国任天堂总裁雷吉·菲尔斯埃米表示:“若Wii代表着阖家欢乐,则DSi就代表着个人的创造力。”[55]另外,时任任天堂社长岩田聪曾表示:“任天堂DSi对小孩来说是第一部相机,对大人来说则是一种社交工具。”{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=2}}他更表示,任天堂DSi的相机功能不会用来与移动电话音乐播放器竞争[51]

任天堂DSi成功的稳定了任天堂掌上游戏机的销量。2009年,任天堂DSi的销量占了英国任天堂掌上游戏机销量的40%,同时长年位居日本游戏机销量榜首[56][57];在发售后的三个月内,任天堂DSi的销量比同时间内Wii、任天堂DS及任天堂DS Lite的销量都高[58];2010年,北美地区之任天堂DSi销量已达20万部,优于同时销量略为下滑的Wii;据电子游戏网站Gamasutra估计,2010年的任天堂DSi销量已达同时期任天堂所有掌上游戏机销量的一半[59][60]。2009年10月,美国任天堂总裁雷吉·菲尔斯埃米宣布任天堂DSi于北美的销量已达220万部,并表示:“在有了任天堂DSi的实际销售经验之后,我们可以大胆的说,如果你给消费者想要的东西,他们就肯定会付钱。”[61]2010年3月,任天堂DSi/DSi LL全球合计销量达1688万部,占了同时期任天堂DS全系列游戏机销量的62%之多[62]。2010年6月,任天堂首次降低了任天堂DSi/DSi LL的售价。2011年3月,任天堂DSi/DSi LL全球合计销量达1466万部,占同时期任天堂DS全系列游戏机销量的84%[19]

2011年2月,任天堂DS系列的继任者任天堂3DS发售,但初期销量不佳,迫使任天堂于2011年8月降低其售价至与任天堂DSi LL相同以刺激买气[63][64][65]。此举大幅影响了任天堂DS系列游戏机的销量,使当月的任天堂DS系列游戏机销量下滑达45%;不过由于任天堂3DS销量的上升,使当月任天堂掌上游戏机的整体销量大略维持相同[64]。2012年5月,任天堂再次降低了任天堂DSi/DSi LL的售价[66],Gamasutra描述此举为“任天堂DS系列的终结之兆”,并表示:“在明年此时,任天堂DS系列的贡献将变得微不足道。任天堂将会把所有人力资源全部投入到任天堂3DS的游戏软件开发中。”[67]

2014年后,任天堂DSi/DSi LL机型销量已基本趋近于零[6]。2017年3月31日,随着任天堂DSi商店正式停止服务,宣告任天堂DSi的生命周期正式终结[5]

任天堂DSi之设计大致与前代主机任天堂DS Lite相同[68][69]。任天堂DSi之主机长度较任天堂DS Lite减少了12%,即{{convert|0.1|in|mm}},但宽度则较任天堂DS Lite大,重量也较轻[68][70][71]。任天堂DSi整体风格延续任天堂DS系列的双萤幕设计,主机配有两面对角线宽度为{{convert|3.25|in|mm}}大的薄膜晶体管液晶显示器(TFT-LCD),其较任天堂DS Lite之萤幕尺寸提升了{{convert|0.25|in|mm}}[70][72],同时发色数为262,144色[72][73]。主机下方的萤幕具备多点触控机能,并支援触控笔[72];内建按键包括字母按键(A、B、X、Y)、十字键、左右肩键(L、R)、开始按钮、选择按钮及电源按钮;主机下方有卡匣插槽、左右肩键及电源线孔[72]{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|pp=8, 11}}。需要注意的是,任天堂DSi附赠的交流适配器(型号为WAP-002)与其它任天堂DS系列游戏机皆不相容{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|p=13}}。

任天堂DSi首度引进了相机功能,配备了两个30万画素影片图形阵列(VGA)相机,分别位于主机萤幕旋转轴及主机背面[74]。另外,任天堂DSi首度支援SD卡,插槽位于主机右侧[72]。任天堂DSi继任天堂DS Lite的切换开关之后,再度使用与原版任天堂DS相同的电源按钮启动主机,不过按钮位置与原版任天堂DS不同,改为在主机下方萤幕的左侧[75][76]。主机左侧有亮度及音量控制开关,其中亮度大小有六种选择,比任天堂DS Lite多了一个;耳机孔则位于主机的下方[77]

任天堂DSi采用拥有特殊光泽的萤幕,以防止沾黏指纹及脏污[12]。任天堂DSi有六种不同的主机颜色[78],不过部分特殊颜色曾只于特定地区销售[79][80][81]。例如,{{En-link|莱姆绿色|Lime (color)#Lime (traditional lime green)}}曾为日本限定[82][83],而红色曾只有欧美玩家才可以入手[81][84];北美版本的蓝色任天堂DSi与日版也有些微色调差异[84]。此外,任天堂还曾发售许多特别涂装版及同捆版本的任天堂DSi,并曾与《逆转检事》及《最终幻想水晶编年史 时之回声》等第三方游戏合作[85][86][87]

任天堂DSi LL[编辑]

任天堂DSi LL为任天堂DSi的大萤幕版本[23][8]。据时任任天堂社长岩田聪在任天堂DSi LL的发表会上表示,“在(任天堂DSi LL)之前,我们因为成本及技术的限制,无法进一步将掌上游戏机的萤幕扩大,并持续新增功能。如今,任天堂DSi LL不只将萤幕加大,并且还改进了萤幕品质、增大萤幕可视角度,使用户不必持续以特定角度注视主机萤幕。”[88]他并表示,相对于注重个人化需求的任天堂DSi,任天堂DSi LL适合“放置于客厅当中”,让家庭成员共同分享[88]

任天堂DSi LL是任天堂DS全系列游戏机中体积最大、重量最重的机型[23][89],主机配有两面对角线宽度为{{convert|4.2|in|mm}}大的TFT-LCD显示器,较任天堂DSi加大了29%,不过萤幕分辨率与任天堂DSi相同[13][90][91];任天堂DSi LL还加大了喇叭的大小及音量。任天堂DSi LL预设仰角为120°,较任天堂DSi的155°小,使玩家在桌面上使用主机时更容易观看萤幕[92]。任天堂DSi LL附赠了两支触控笔[93],其中一支可放入主机中,另一只则较厚、较长[8]{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|p=111}},需另外放置[94]

任天堂DSi LL采用了与任天堂DSi相同材质的特殊光泽萤幕,以防止沾黏指纹及脏污[95]。任天堂DSi LL有八种不同的主机颜色,不过部分特殊颜色只于特定地区销售[96][97][98],包括白色、绿色[8][98][99]、黄色、红色[97][99]及粉红色[100]等。另外,任天堂还曾发售两种特别涂装版本的任天堂DSi LL,分别为《LovePlus+》合作版本及《超级玛利欧兄弟》25周年纪念版本[98][101]

任天堂DSi LL内建了“任天堂DSi浏览器”及《{{En-link|便携笔记|Flipnote Studio}}》应用程序,此外根据销售地区的不同还会附赠其他软件[41][42][102][103]

技术规格[编辑]

任天堂DSi较任天堂DS Lite拥有更快的中央处理器(CPU)及更多的随机存取内存(RAM)[104];根据运行游戏的不同,主机还可以自动分配及运用运算资源,达到效能最大化[105][106]。任天堂DSi透过专用的编程集成电路(即微处理器)放大音效音量、提升音效品质,并将音效由数字信号转为类比讯号输出。任天堂也将任天堂DSi主板上多余的空间减去、重新调整中央处理器位置,并加大电池容量[15]

任天堂DSi首度引进了相机功能,其相机分辨率为30万画素,较多数移动电话及数码相机都低。据任天堂表示,由于多数软件皆会使用相机,此举可大幅加快相机反应速度,同时节省组建成本[12][107]

  • 中央处理器(CPU):任天堂DSi/DSi LL有两个安谋ARM架构的处理器,分别为频率134MHz的{{En-link|ARM9|}}及频率33MHz的ARM7[108],其ARM9处理器速度是前代主机任天堂DS Lite的两倍[104][109]
  • 随机存取内存(RAM):16MB,是前代主机的四倍[70]
  • 萤幕分辨率:256 × 192,与前代主机相同[110]
  • 相机分辨率:30万画素(640 × 480,即480p)。
  • 储存空间:内建快闪存储器,容量为256MB[111],并附有扩充插槽,支援SD卡(最多扩充2GB)及SDHC卡(最多扩充32GB)[112]
  • 电池:容量为840毫安培,较前代主机任天堂DS Lite的1000毫安培少[75];循环充电次数约为500次{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|p=13}}。在最低亮度设定的情形下,任天堂DSi电池续航力最多可达9至14小时,任天堂DSi LL电池续航力最多可达13至17小时,不过皆较任天堂DS Lite的15至19小时短[71][75]

系统功能[编辑]

任天堂DSi采用的操作系统为任天堂DSi系统软件,与任天堂的家用游戏机Wii相同,也可透过网络升级固件[27][113]。任天堂DSi系统软件将游戏及应用程序以图示方式呈现[27],预设内建有七个图示,分别为“卡匣内游戏”、“任天堂DSi照相馆”、“任天堂DSi音乐馆”、“任天堂DSi商店”、“任天堂DS下载游玩”、“{{En-link|PictoChat|}}”及“系统设定”,其他应用程序则可以在任天堂DSi商店中取得;玩家可以使用手指或触控笔,自由调整图示的位置{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|pp=24–25}}。依据按压电源按钮的时间长度及地点,可以重置主机、返回主画面或关闭主机。另外,任天堂DSi支援热插拔机能,玩家可以在不重启主机的情况下直接替换游戏卡匣[114]

任天堂DSi比任天堂DS系列的其它主机支援更多多媒体格式。透过外接SD卡,可以让主机存取进阶音讯编码(AAC)音讯档案、图片、影片及其它应用程序[115],其中图片及应用程序还可转移至内建储存空间[116]。“任天堂DSi照相馆”应用程序中附有十种滤镜特效,在摄影前可选择效果套用[117]{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|pp=29–31}}。相片可以上传至Wii的“相片频道”中,并透过电视观赏;在系统版本1.4升级后,还加入了对社群网站Facebook的支援[118]{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=3}}。

“任天堂DSi音乐馆”应用程序拥有播放音乐及录音功能。录制完毕后的音效档案可以在应用程序内进行音高调整及滤波器套用等操作,最多可以储存18个长度为10秒的音效档[75]。不过,音效档无法转移至SD卡上[112]。另外,玩家还可以透过外接SD卡播放音乐[75],支援的格式包括采用.mp4.m4a.3gp等副档名的音讯档案,非AAC编码的档案格式如.mp3等则无法播放{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|p=102}};在播放音乐时,也可同时套用滤波器特效[75]。透过耳机,还可以在合上主机后继续聆听音乐[3]

透过内建的802.11b/g Wi-Fi机能或任天堂的{{En-link|Wi-Fi USB网络转接器|Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector}}(Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector),可以将任天堂DSi连接至任天堂的线上游戏服务任天堂Wi-Fi连线{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|pp=76–79}};任天堂DSi支援的{{En-link|无线网络加密格式|Wireless LAN Security}}包括有线等效加密(WEP)、Wi-Fi加密协议(WPA,采用进阶加密标准(AES)及临时金钥完整性协定(TKIP)安全协定版本)及第二版Wi-Fi加密协议(WPA2,也采用AES及TKIP安全协定版本){{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|p=94}},不过原版任天堂DS及任天堂DS Lite不支援WPA及WPA2,因此仅有特定为任天堂DSi发行的软件支援协议[120][121]。任天堂DSi最多可以储存六个Wi-Fi设定,其中三个必须采用WEP加密协议,另外三个则没有限制,还可以使用Wi-Fi保护设置(WPS)及代理服务器设定{{Sfn|Nintendo|2009|pp=87–88}}。透过{{En-link|任天堂地区|Nintendo Zone}}(Nintendo Zone)线上服务,还可以在靠近服务热点基站时,自动以既有的Wi-Fi设定连线{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=5}}。

任天堂DSi与所有的原版任天堂DS任天堂DS Lite游戏皆相容;不过为了减少主机厚度及制造成本,任天堂DSi取消了任天堂DS系列一贯的向下相容设计,并移除了Game Boy Advance卡匣插槽[123]。由于移除了GBA卡匣插槽,部分使用了该插槽的游戏将无法运作[123],使用GBA卡匣插槽的{{En-link|配件|List of Nintendo DS accessories}},如任天堂官方的{{En-link|震动包|Rumble Pak#Nintendo DS}}及《{{En-link|吉他英雄:巡回演出|Guitar Hero: On Tour series}}》系列所使用的吉他手把也无法在任天堂DSi上使用[122]。标注有“DSi-enhanced”标签的游戏内含部分仅为任天堂DSi/DSi LL设计的游戏功能,不过其他机能也能在其他任天堂DS系列游戏机上运作;标注有“DSi-exclusive”标签者则代表该游戏为任天堂DSi专用游戏,仅支援任天堂DSi/DSi LL机型[124]。任天堂DSi是任天堂首部具备锁区机能的掌上游戏机,使在不同地区发售的游戏不能交换使用[125][126]。一般的任天堂DSi专用游戏皆具有锁区机能,不过原版任天堂DS及任天堂DS Lite游戏、网络浏览及媒体分享相关软件则无锁区规范{{Notetag|但是当IGN在日版任天堂DSi上测试一款只带有“DSi-enhanced”标签的美版任天堂DS游戏时,却也发生无法运作的情形[126]。|name=DSi enhanced}}[125]。另外,旧版的{{En-link|自制闪存卡|List of Nintendo DS and 3DS flash cartridges#Second generation}}也大多无法在任天堂DSi上运作[127]

与任天堂的家用游戏机Wii相同,任天堂DSi也有平台专属的线上商店任天堂DSi商店[111]。玩家可透过任天堂DSi商店下载任天堂DSi专属的{{en-link|DSiWare}}游戏及其他软件,付款方式为购买{{En-link|任天堂点数|Wii Shop Channel#Wii Points}}预付卡,并兑换为线上点数支付[71]{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=3}};多数软件皆采用了三阶段的定价方案[71]。作为促销手段,任天堂为每部任天堂DSi免费提供了1000点任天堂点数,使用期限依各地区而有所不同{{Notetag|方案到期时间依据所在地区而有所不同,例如在日本,方案到期日为2010年3月{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=4}},但是在中国大陆则为2011年中[128]。|name=trial}}。另外,由任天堂及Opera软件开发、专为任天堂DSi设计的网络浏览器任天堂DSi浏览器也同时上架[76]{{Sfn|Satoru Iwata|2008|p=4}}。至2011年6月,已有超过350款游戏及其它软件上架任天堂DSi商店[125][129]。大部分在任天堂DSi商店购买的游戏皆可转移至任天堂3DS,不过游戏资料本身则无法转移[119][130]

舆论普遍给予任天堂DSi正面评价,肯定其较任天堂DS Lite在主机设计及功能上的改进,不过对于其内容贫乏的独占游戏阵容则予以批评{{Notetag|根据{{en-link|Bit-Tech|}}[146]PC World[109]Ars Technica[147]、IGN[148]CNET[149]的报导。|name=exclusive software}}。IGN的克雷格·哈里斯(Craig Horris)表示,任天堂DSi独占游戏品质相差过大,任天堂DSi商店甚至在日本上线五个月后仍缺乏优质内容[27]CNET的杰夫·巴卡拉(Jeff Bakalar)也表示,只建议原版任天堂DS,而非在功能方面相差无几的任天堂DS Lite用户购买任天堂DSi[76];不过,PC World的詹·柏契兰(Jan Berkieland)则认为应再给任天堂DSi一些时间发展独占数位内容[109]。多数评论皆指责任天堂移除了Game Boy Advance卡匣插槽的设计{{Notetag|根据Bit-Tech[74]、CNET[76]、《彭博商业周刊[113]、IGN[148]及PC World[150]的报导。|name=gba slot}},不过部分评论者,如PC World的达伦·格拉德斯通(Darren Gladstone)、{{En-link|Bit-Tech|}}的乔·马丁(Joe Martin)及IGN的哈里斯及史考特·罗威(Scott Lowe)则认为,以卡匣插槽交换外接SD卡功能以及全新的线上商店是可以接受的。[74][150][148]不过,巴卡拉同时在其评论中表示:“我认为,与其只减少4毫米的主机厚度,完整保留卡匣插槽还更好一些。”[76]

由于任天堂DSi在设计及功能上的诸多改进,多数媒体皆建议玩家在新挑选掌上游戏机时选择任天堂DSi{{Notetag|根据CNET[76]、PC World [109]、《彭博商业周刊》[113]、IGN[148]、CNET[149]及《洛杉矶时报》[156]的报导。|name=dsi addition}}。《洛杉矶时报》的皮特·梅茨格(Pete Metzger)表示:“(任天堂DSi)比较像是大幅改进版本,而非全新的产品。”同时也认为主机的新功能“为原本已经不错的产品锦上添花”[156];格拉德斯通在其报导中给予了任天堂DSi 75/100分,认为任天堂“在任天堂DS系列游戏机成熟的基础上,添加了更多有用的多媒体机能。”[150]哈里斯及罗威则表示,任天堂DSi“更像是渐进式的而不是革命性的产品。”[148]高盛分析师马修·J·法斯勒(Matthew J.Fassler)认为,任天堂DSi商店“有效的影响了大型量贩店及经销商的业绩”[157];马丁则认为,虽然任天堂DSi的相机及商店机能在开卖时并没有大幅影响市场,不过仍逐渐改变了电子游戏界的开发生态{{Notetag|根据Bit-Tech[146]、Ars Technica[147]、《彭博商业周刊》[113]、IGN[148]、Eurogamer,[155]GameSpot[158]的报导。|name=future}}。

另一方面,《{{En-link|英国连线|Wired UK}}》的道格·拉斯兰金(Douglas Rankine)与GamePro的麦金利·诺柏(McKinley Noble)认为,由于任天堂DSi LL(XL)增大了萤幕尺寸,使原本被忽略的《{{En-link|涂鸦冒险家|Scribblenauts}}》及《这个美妙的世界》等部分较精致的原版任天堂DS游戏再度受到关注[159][160]。《电脑与电子游戏》的麦克·杰克森(Mike Jackson)反驳此说法,认为由于任天堂DSi LL并不会提升原版任天堂DS游戏的分辨率,因此使游戏出现锯齿情形,反而更不美观[161];不过,杰克森及IGN的罗威及克里斯·伯克(Chris Burke)皆同意任天堂DSi LL鲜艳清晰的萤幕色彩表现,的确使游戏看起来更加生动[95][161]。总结来说,多数媒体认为任天堂DSi LL并非必要性的升级[26][95][161];马丁在他的报导中总结道:“如果你并不打算将游戏机带出门而只是想在客厅享受的话,那么任天堂DSi XL(LL)才真正值得购买。”[161]
