历史欧洲武术

史实欧洲武术（Historical European martial arts，HEMA）又称欧洲历史武技、欧洲历史武术、古欧洲武术，是人们对起源于欧洲的武术的统称。史实欧洲武术是一种伞状词汇（Umbrella term），其包含的武术项目不一定具有关联性或传承关系。

古典武术（如希腊摔跤或角斗）的保存的文献有限，现存的武术文献或武术手册则可以追溯到中世纪晚期。 因此现代HEMA的重点研究时代，主要集中于大约一次世界大战前后至700年前的时期。目前已知最早的完整欧洲武术手稿，为推定西元1280至1320间撰写的I.33剑盾术。保存较完整而较多人研究的项目，有中世纪晚期至文艺复兴的日耳曼系统与义大利系统，文艺复兴时代到近现代的的伊比利半岛、法国、英格兰与苏格兰系统等。

19世纪80年代开始，人们开始复兴和还原欧洲传统武术，并融入一些现代特色。然而由于第一次世界大战的缘故，19世纪晚期的史实欧洲武术复兴就此中断。第二次世界大战后，HEMA以两种不同的路线缓慢的再次复苏，一是现代马上枪术比赛的参与者，二是20世纪80至90年代，从创造性历史错置会（Society for Creative Anachronism）中分离出来的社群。

史实欧洲武术的重要特色为与学术圈关系密切，许多重要人物本身即具有学者身分，例如出版大量古代武术手稿抄本的科学史博士Patri Pugliese、原为考古学家的Matt Easton、专攻马上比武与中世纪晚期武装的华勒斯典藏馆策展人Tobias Capwell等。史实欧洲武术也与欧美博物馆保持密切的联系，例如利兹的皇家兵械库博物馆便经常举办相关活动与研讨会。

史实欧洲武术的历史

上古时代至中世纪

最早提及武术训练的欧洲文献之一，为罗马帝国晚期作家维盖提乌斯的著作《论军事（De re militari）》。在该书中描述了罗马人选兵并进行战技训练的方式。然而此书对武术训练仅提供概念性描述，仅能得知罗马士兵会从事体能训练、以木桩为标靶的基本攻击训练、各类兵器操作训练、穿著装甲进行战技训练等项目，但无法得知罗马时代武术训练的具体技巧。

少数保存下来的上古历史欧洲武术为记录古希腊摔角的俄克喜林库斯沙草纸466，此份破碎的文稿记录了古希腊摔角的一些架式与技巧。

尽管不少中世纪文学的内容，记录了特定的武术行为与军事知识，足以确认中世纪早期与盛期也存在武术，但在中世纪晚期前并没有武术书保存下来。

中世纪晚期至文艺复兴

目前已知最早，保存几乎完整内容的史实欧洲武术书为I.33剑与小圆盾术，此系统名称源于其皇家兵械库博物馆的馆藏编号。此抄本推定的年代为1280-1320年间，该抄本以修士（教导者）、学生与女子三人的形式呈现各种剑与小圆盾的攻防技术。I.33剑与小圆盾术以中世纪拉丁语撰写，并混杂了部分德文词汇。由于I.33包含了大量专门的武术术语，一般推定在I.33前还存在其他完整的武术系统。

日耳曼系统

中世纪晚期的日耳曼武术以约翰尼斯·李希特奈尔为中心，李希特奈尔本人的著作并未留下，仅有一首歌诀（Zettel）流传。最早提及此歌诀的手稿为纽伦堡抄本 GNM 3227a，此抄本纪录了李希特奈尔的歌诀，并给予具体技巧的注释与说明。日耳曼流派的武术书多半以此形式展开。

日耳曼流派并不等于“李希特奈尔传统”，例如华勒斯坦抄本描述的战斗技巧便与李希特奈尔传统相去甚远。然而随著时间进展，李希特奈尔传统的武术在日耳曼地区取得了主导地位。

15世纪重要的日耳曼武术大师包括，西吉斯蒙德·瑞格克(Sigmund Ringeck)、彼得·冯·旦泽（Peter von Danzig，参见Cod. 44 A 8），汉斯·塔尔霍夫、Paulus Kal等。以上所有人都表明其技术来自约翰尼斯·李希特奈尔。

日耳曼流派的武术书多半包含其中几项内容：擒拿术、匕首（通常为圆盘匕首）、日耳曼战刀或督萨克刀、长棍、长柄武器、长剑、甲胄战、骑马战。一些武术书包含特殊的内容，例如专门用于决斗审判的决斗盾（Stechschild）。

义大利系统

最早以义大利语撰写武术书的大师为费奥瑞·德·李柏提（Fiore dei Liberi），由费拉拉的侯爵赞助。大约在1407至1410年间，他撰写了著名的武术书《战争之花（Fior di Battaglia）》，内容囊括擒拿、匕首、武装剑、长剑、长柄武器、甲胄战与骑马战。义大利武术的传统由菲利浦·瓦第（Filippo di Vadi，1482–1487）和佩特罗·蒙提（Pietro Monte，1492， 其著作同时使用义大利、西班牙与拉丁文撰写。）

近代晚期

19世纪时，当代的冷兵器在战场上逐渐式微，除了部分兵器如军刀(saber)、刺刀(bayonet)等仍在军队中被使用，其馀则逐渐往决斗、运动竞技的方向演变，并最终成为现代的击剑运动。

第一次世界大战前，有些武术学者希望可以复兴时代更久远的兵器武术，Alfred Hutton是当中的领导人物之一，其出版的“Old Sword Play”便摘录了部分16至18世纪间，包含护手刺剑和匕首、双手大剑、笼手剑与拳盾等兵器的动作技巧。

根据作者的说词，这些技巧搭配起来相当适合舞台剑术的表演，且能增进剑术学习者对19世纪当代兵器，如锐剑(foil)、军刀等的理解。

然而，随著1910年Alfred Hutton去世，加上紧接而来的第一次世界大战，这股复兴古代欧洲兵器武术的风潮也随之沉寂。
