中國名人錄
《中國名人錄》（英語：Who's Who in China），是《密勒氏評論報》（Millard's Review）與更名後的《中國每周評論》（The China Weekly Review）於1918－1950年間出版的名人錄系列作，九度更新緊貼時局，圖文並茂介紹中華民國政商人士及專業精英，係研究民國史的外文參考書。系列作並非旨在囊括一切名人，而是儘可能令世界認識中國人。[1]
時代背景[編輯]
1917年6月9日，美國記者湯姆斯·密勒（T. F. Millard）在上海創刊《密勒氏評論報》，讀者主要是在華外僑、中國政界和知識分子，海外讀者亦多，在美國、歐洲和中國有一定的影響力[2]。1919年，《密勒氏評論報》由約翰·比爾·鮑威爾（John Bill Powell）接管，英文名改為《中國每周評論》，其子約翰·威廉·鮑威爾（John W. Powell）隨後繼任主編。[3]。
編纂取材[編輯]
鮑威爾父子的信息來自北京和天津的外國人，以及在該報做的調查問卷，受訪者包括商界和科學界，還採訪了清華學校校友及從美國歸國的人士[4]。
在1925年之前，《中國每周評論》已經出版兩次《中國名人錄》，但主編鮑威爾父子仍然希望繼續更新，以囊括最新的中國國內人物變化。1924年9月的第二次直奉戰爭，直接促使了鮑威爾父子進行第三次改版的延期和出版[1]。
1931年，日軍入侵中國東北和上海，所以鮑威爾父子在1933年進行了第四版的補充版，囊括了當時抵抗日軍的國共軍事將領、以及一些著名的佛教僧侶[5]。
