约翰·路易·埃米尔·德雷耳
约翰·路易·埃米尔·德雷耳（英语：John Louis Emil Dreyer，丹麦语：Johan Ludvig Emil Dreyer，1852年2月13日—1926年9月14日），生于丹麦，已故爱尔兰天文学家[1][2]。
生平[编辑]
德雷耳生于丹麦哥本哈根，父亲约翰·克里斯多福·德雷耳是海军中将[3]，丹麦战争与海军部长。德雷耳14岁时对天文开始感兴趣，并固定拜访任职于哥本哈根天文台的天文学家汉斯·谢尔勒鲁普[4]。德雷耳在哥本哈根接受教育到1874年他22岁时，之后他前往爱尔兰担任天文学家劳伦斯·帕森思（建造帕森城的利维坦望远镜的天文学家威廉·帕森思的儿子）的助理[5]。
1878年德雷耳前往丹辛克天文台担任天文学家罗伯特·斯德威尔·鲍尔的下属。1882年他担任北爱尔兰阿马天文台的台长直到1916年退休[6]。1885年德雷耳成为英国公民，1916年他和妻子迁往牛津负责整理并出版第谷·布拉赫去世后出版的第15卷，也是最后一卷作品[5]。
1916年德雷耳获得英国皇家天文学会金质奖章，1923至1925年间担任英国皇家天文学会会长。1926年9月14日德雷耳在牛津逝世[5]。
天文研究[编辑]
他最主要的贡献就是基于威廉·赫歇尔编辑的星云和星团总表编辑了现在天文界使用的星云和星团新总表[8]，之后再增补了两个索引星表[9]。
德雷耳还是一位天文学史家。1890年他出版了他的故乡丹麦的著名天文学家第谷·布拉赫的传记；晚年他对第谷的出版物和未发表的信件进行整理[5]。德雷耳于1905年出版的《History of the Planetary Systems from Thales to Kepler》是他的天文史研究成果，虽然部分内容在今日已过时，仍是很好的天文史入门书。之后该书以标题《A History of Astronomy from Thales to Kepler》 重印[10][11]。
德雷耳还和赫伯特·霍尔·特纳共同编写了第一部英国皇家天文学会发展史书籍《History of the Royal Astronomical Society 1820–1920》，于1923年出版，1987年重印[12]。
