美國偉人名人堂（Hall of Fame for Great Americans）是美國紐約市布朗克斯布朗克斯社區學院內的一座名人堂，收錄了102名美國公民。它建於1901年，本是紐約大學大學高地校區的一部分，由建築師斯坦福·懷特設計，用來裝飾古爾德紀念圖書館（Gould Memorial Library）的擋土牆。它是一個帶有柱廊的涼廊，長630英尺（190公尺），裡面有各個偉人的匾額和青銅半身像。

慈善家海倫·古爾德於1900年為該建築捐款，1901年5月30日正式落成。第一座半身像於1907年安放，最初展示的都是美國本土出生者，1915年開始接納外國出生的公民。大多數半身像在1922年至1930年間完成。

名人堂收錄的最後一位偉人於1976年選出。由於缺乏資金，名人堂缺少路易斯·布蘭迪斯、克拉拉·巴頓、路德·伯班克和安德魯·卡內基的半身像，其餘98個半身像也開始鏽蝕。學校在20世紀末和21世紀初對名人堂進行了數次翻修。2017年羅伯特·E·李和石牆傑克森的半身像遭到移除。

紐約大學校長亨利·米切爾·麥克拉肯在1890年代末提議修建名人堂，以修飾古爾德紀念圖書館暴露在外的一堵擋土牆[2][3]。他的靈感來自於1853年竣工的德國慕尼黑名人堂[3][4]。它是美國第一個名人堂[5][6]。

1900年3月海倫·古爾德捐贈10萬美元後，名人堂開始施工[7]。名人堂預計收錄150人，其中50人在1900年選出，隨後每5年選5個，直至2000年[8][9][10]。其預定的入選資格為在美國出生並至少在十年前去世[11][8][9]。1900年3月下旬投票開始時，名人堂修建成本已超過預算，達20萬美元[12][13]。

紐約大學邀請了100人負責篩選名人，252項提名中只有30項獲得合格的50票[14]。1900年10月，第一批入選者正式確認，同時學校還決定為外國出生的名人再建一個可容納30人的名人堂[14][15]。美國偉人名人堂在1901年5月30日落成，收錄29人，外國偉人名人堂則因缺乏資金沒有建成[16][17]。名人堂建成後，迅速獲得大眾關注，《紐約時報》曾定期詳細報導其提名和選舉情況[5]。

到1960年代，名人堂的關注度還比較高。1973年，紐約大學將其布朗克斯校區出售給紐約市立大學，紐約市立大學將該校區劃給布朗克斯社區學院[18][19]。但這次交易不包含名人堂，因為紐約市立大學認為名人堂沒有價值[20]。名人堂基金成立於1974年，紐約大學和紐約市立大學每年共同提供125,000美元用於名人堂的維護[21]，持續三年[20]。

1976年，紐約大學打算取消每年61,000美元的名人堂運營補貼。原因是它位置偏遠，遠離紐約地鐵，吸引的遊客不夠多[22]，雖然每年仍有約一萬名遊客[21]。同年，名人堂開始根據選舉人給出的分數篩選名人，而不是根據票數[23]。克拉拉·巴頓、路德·伯班克和安德魯·卡內基入選[24][25]，這也是名人堂的最後一次選舉[21]。

1978年，新澤西州官員拒絕了將名人堂遷至自由州立公園的計劃[26]。1979年，名人堂只有一名工作人員，沒有任何維修資金[27]，許多半身像漸漸鏽蝕[20][28]，一些甚至遭到破壞，如安德魯·傑克遜的半身像[28]。

此後，名人堂在1981年至1985年（200萬美元）[29]、1992年至1997年（130萬美元）[30]多次翻修，花費不菲。布朗克斯社區學院於2001年組織了一次100萬美元的籌款活動[31]，近兩年後只籌到2,000美元，全部來自紐約大學校友[32]。到2009年，名人堂主要由兩位當地歷史學家維護[6]。社區學院於2015年宣布計劃籌集2500萬至5000萬美元用於翻修古爾德圖書館，並計劃將名人堂擴建到圖書館內[33]。

2017年8月，團結右翼集會後，紐約州州長安德魯·庫默下令拆除聯盟軍將軍羅伯特·E·李和石牆傑克森的半身像[34][35]。拆除後，名人堂只剩下96個半身像，還有6個剩餘空位[36]。此後名人堂還是處在疏於維護的狀態[37]

其提名規則在歷史上發生過幾次變動，目前所有提名人都必須是美國公民，包括歸化公民和本土出生公民，並且他們必須在提名前至少25年去世[38][39][40]，後一項規則在1922年前為10年前去世[38][39]。
