BMW E46是德国BMW公司BMW 3系列车型第四代，是E36的换代产品。
1998年5月E46四门轿车版首次公布。次年，双门轿跑和旅行车上市。2000年，敞篷车和掀背车型也开始发售。掀背车型仅供应欧洲、南非、澳大利亚和新西兰市场。E46推出市场后广受好评，其驾驶性能是同级别车辆中的佼佼者。[4]2002年E46销量达到顶峰，当年全球各型号共卖出了561,249台。.[5]市场主要的竞争者为爱快罗密欧156、奥迪A4、立胜IS、马赛地-宾士C级、绅宝9-3和富豪S60。
BMW M公司在E46的车体上开发了高性能版本M3，和基型E46相比装备了大功率引擎，限滑差速器，运动减震装置和空气动力学套件。E46版M3与2001年上市，仅有双门硬顶和双门敞篷两个版本，并有6速手动牙箱和或电控手动牙箱可供选择。
设计[编辑]
外型特征[编辑]
E46型在外型特征上和前代E36有着革命性的变化。1991年BMW控股美国外观工业设计公司DesignWorksUSA后不久，即开始新一代BMW 3系列设计工作。1995年，Erik Goplen设计了E46的初稿，并由DesignWorksUSA和BMW的工程师协作完善。1996年1月，Chris Bangle受命对外观设计进行完善。2月，设计正式被采纳。外观设计从E36出发，设计组重点提升了车辆的空气动力学性能和增加外观的侵略性。新设计与1997年7月16日和1998年2月16日分别在德国和美国申请专利。由于前代E39深得市场认可，因此新代车外型在起初并未获得公众及汽车媒体广泛赞美。新车部分设计显得和BMW传统“离经叛道”，如圆角化外型，侧面看倾斜的车顶曲线，招致部分BMW资深拥趸的不满。1996年1月至1998年1月，进行生产筹备。双门版也由Erik Goplen设计，大约在1996-1997年间完成。
内饰设计[编辑]
全系E46搭载了多功能电脑控制的车载娱乐系统。由于在设计时预留了接口，所有E46都可以加装BMW或第三方厂家生产的最新功能车载娱乐系统，如收音机，GPS系统，蓝牙系统，车载电话，CD/DVD放映机，倒车显影等。
动力装置[编辑]
E46动力装置的设计重点在于减少簧下质量和增加车体刚性以适应大马力发动机和剧烈操作。1998年上市首批E46中，发动机最大的328i仅仅比前E36 328i增加了3马力，但车体坚固程度却增加了70%（BMW厂方声明）。[6]为减轻簧下质量，大量悬挂装置部件改为钛合金制造。[6]E46有前置后驱和四轮驱动（xi）两个版本。根据传统BMW将车总重分配前后轴各占50%，[7][6][8]使得两种方式下都能获得极好的操纵性能。

运动套件[编辑]
BMW针对E46 330i/Ci推出了改造套件，称为ZHP改装套件并在北美上市。2003-2005 330i，以及2004-2006 330Ci均可加装。改造件包括外观套件以获得更出色的空气动力学性能。其发动机亦有小改进，凸轮轴外型加以改进以改善气门开闭状态，行车电脑发动机模块（DME）的代码也进行改动，使得发动机功率从225 hp（168 kW）上升到235 hp（175 kW）。[43] 车体悬挂系统也进行较多改进：弹簧和减震器更加坚硬，加装大型防侧倾撑杆，以及更强的前控制臂球窝轴承。车辆比普通版更加低矮，转弯时轮胎亦有更大的外倾角。此番改进后车辆运动性在原有基础上有很大提升，汽车和驾驶员杂志在赛道上亲测该车，结果是0-60mph加速仅需5.6秒，完成1/4英里只需14.3秒，亦接近普通版M3的性能。
