第32届学院奖颁奖典礼于1960年4月4日在美国加利福尼亚州洛杉矶的雷电华潘太及斯剧院（英语：Pantages Theatre (Hollywood)）举行，也是截止2013年最后一次在这里举行，鲍勃·霍普第5次担任主持人。

威廉·惠勒执导，米高梅公司出品，片长达三个半小时的史诗电影《賓漢》在12项提名中获得了惊人的11项奖，创下了获奖数量的最高纪录。这个数字截止2013年时仍然未被超越，仅有1997年的《泰坦尼克号》[1][2]和2003年的《魔戒三部曲：王者再臨》[3]数量上与之持平[4]。
