犹他盗龙属名Utahraptor,意为“犹他州的盗贼”)是种二足行走的大型肉食性奔龙科兽脚类恐龙。化石出土于美国犹他州早白垩世凡蓝今阶(约1亿3500万至1亿3000万年前)的雪松山层模式种兼唯一种奥梅氏犹他盗龙U. ostrommaysi)发表于1993年,是当时已知体型数一数二大型的奔龙科,身长约5.5公尺及体重300公斤,体格结构相当粗壮。

发现及命名[编辑]

首个犹他盗龙标本于1975年由詹森英语James A. Jensen犹他州东部格兰德县摩押市附近的道吞维斯采石场(Dalton Wells Quarry)所发现,但当时并没引起太多关注。直到1991年10月李蒙(Carl Limone)发现一个大型脚趾爪之后,柯克兰英语James Kirkland (paleontologist)、加斯顿(Robert Gaston)、伯格(Donald Burge)随即前往当地的加斯顿采石场(Gaston Quarry)展开挖掘,并于属于雪松山组黄猫段(Yellow Cat Member)、毒带段(Poison Strip Member)发现进一步的犹他盗龙化石。[1]正模标本CEUM 184v.86目前保存在东犹他学院古生馆英语USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum。而詹森发现的最大只标本则保存在杨百翰大学

模式种奥梅氏犹他盗龙Utahraptor ostrommaysi)由柯克兰、加斯顿、伯格于1993年6月发表。属名意为“犹他盗贼”,取自发现地加上奔龙科常见字尾raptor种名致敬奥斯壮英语John Ostrom恐爪龙与其跟鸟类之关联研究的贡献,以及梅斯(Chris Mays)透过动态企业英语Dinamation赞助了犹他盗龙的研究。[1]起初命名时柯克兰等曾考虑将种名以执导《侏罗纪公园》的电影导演史蒂芬·史匹柏为名,企图获得财务赞助,但双方却未能于财务支援多寡达成共识而作罢。[2]2000年奥舍夫斯基(George Olshevsky)将原种名ostrommaysi修改为复数形态的ostrommaysorum[3]但2019年寇斯塔(Thiago Vernaschi V. Costa)和戴维(Normand David)批评道ostrommaysorum的采用并未指出明确理由或解释。就算之前这种拼法已被其他大量人士使用,有鉴于国际动物命名规约并未规定可以用两种拼法表达属格,所以他们解释最初的ostrommaysi将仅视作字母任意组合而非正确属格,因此无须修正而ostrommaysorum不具效力。其他文献使用过的误拼还有如ostromaysiostromaysorumostromayssorumostromayorumostrommaysori[4]

描述[编辑]

正模CEUM 184v.86是第二脚趾爪,其他可能归入的参考标本有CEUM 184v.294(脚爪)、CEUM 184v.260(胫骨)、CEUM 184v.400(前上颌骨)。这些部位与其他奔龙科相比有著较大的比例,显示犹他盗龙的体长约是恐爪龙的两倍。[1]如同其他奔龙科,犹他盗龙第二脚趾长有巨大弯曲的爪子,保存的第二趾爪长22公分,估计生前长达24公分。[1]

最大只的犹他盗龙标本(BYUVP 15465于2009年艾瑞克森等归入[5])估计身长可达7公尺及体重少于500公斤,相当于一头北极熊[1]2012年汤玛斯·霍茨英语Thomas R. Holtz Jr.估计体重介于230至450公斤,相当于棕熊[6]但2001年柯克兰发现的标本显示体重可能远高于过去所估计。[7]2016年莫里纳裴雷兹(Rubén Molina-Pérez)和拉腊曼迪(Asier Larramendi)估计最大标本BYU 15465长4.65公尺、臀高1.5公尺及体重280公斤;他们表示较高的估计值是因为综合了九个不同年龄的标本。[8]2016年葛瑞格利·保罗英语Gregory S. Paul估计身长5.5公尺及体重最高300公斤,近似于前者。[9]

某些标本曾错误归入犹他盗龙,如CEUM 184v.83的泪骨其实是甲龙类加斯顿龙。布里特等还指出原本以为是手爪的M184v.294、BYU 9438和BYU 13068其实来自脚爪。[10]2007年得到森特证实。[11]

头骨重建

1993年柯克兰提出鉴定犹他盗龙的自衍征如下:手爪比其他奔龙科更适应切割;泪骨内外侧明显平行,俯视呈细长亚矩形;前上颌骨的鼻孔与前上颌牙排平行。[1]2012年透纳等人修正了犹他盗龙与其他奔龙科的差异在于:前上颌骨加长鼻突;第三跖骨远端平滑非牙龈状;方轭骨缺乏L形后突;大小转子间的缝隙发育良好;背椎缺乏侧凹。[12]

虽然犹他盗龙没发现明确的羽毛证据,可信的分类支持所有奔龙科都覆羽。小盗龙是最古老的奔龙科之一,种系发生位置比犹他盗龙还原始;[13]因其明确的羽毛证据而使这种特征普遍存在于奔龙科的假设合理化。有鉴于羽毛可能演化了不只一次,因此若要证实特定奔龙科(如犹他盗龙)没有羽毛,反而也需要明确证据来支持。[14]截至今日都未曾有更大更先进奔龙科失去羽毛的任何迹象。[15]达科塔盗龙身上发现羽茎瘤代表了更大的奔龙科也有羽毛。[16]

分类[编辑]

犹他盗龙属于奔龙科(俗称“盗龙”),是兽脚类虚骨龙类手盗龙类近鸟类演化支。犹他盗龙是其中体型最大者,并与伶盗龙、恐爪龙、奔龙处于同一支系真驰龙类[1]

2015年的研究将犹他盗龙与较小型的奔龙、蒙古巨型的阿基里斯龙、以及北美巨型的达科塔盗龙一同列入驰龙亚科[16]

运动能力[编辑]

柯克兰等人指出犹他盗龙因为巨大的体型,速度可能不及恐爪龙和伶盗龙,反而相当于同期的禽龙类,并快于蜥脚类。胫骨厚度则显示犹他盗龙有强劲腿力足以杀死猎物。[1]还指出伶盗龙及恐爪龙等奔龙科靠手爪处理猎物、并在踢击猎物时辅助平衡。与此相反,重量级犹他盗龙能踢腿又同时维持平衡,使双手得以空出来处理猎物。[1]保罗认为犹他盗龙速度并不特别快,而可能作为一名伏击者偷袭大型猎物,如共栖的禽龙类及镰刀龙类。其健壮体格及巨型镰刀爪显示非常适于捕杀此类猎物。一如其他奔龙科,犹他盗龙也可能大幅依赖下颚捕食,程度更胜于伶盗龙。[18]

2001年罗斯柴尔德(Bruce Rothschild)检验两个归入犹他盗龙的趾骨是否存在疲劳性骨折但未发现任何迹象。[19]

社会行为[编辑]

一名研究生在犹他东部发现一个重达9吨的砂岩岩块,其中有骨头突出,2001年柯克兰等人检验了这项发现。确认其中包含至少七只个体,有一只长约4.8公尺的成体、四只年轻个体及一只长约1公尺的幼体。与之一同形成的其他遗骸还有至少一种植食禽龙类。柯克兰推测这是犹他盗龙群试图袭击陷入流沙的无助猎物或采食其腐肉,自己却也陷入泥淖中无法脱身。克里夫兰罗伊采石场英语Jurassic National Monument(Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry)和加州拉布雷亚沥青坑都展现了类似的捕食陷阱。挖掘活动已经十年,检验化石工作仍持续进行;若柯克兰所述为实,这可能是迄今所知保存最完好的捕食陷阱之一。对犹他盗龙进一步的行为理解可能从这些化石中找到各方面资讯,如犹他盗龙是否像之前所认为的恐爪龙群体捕猎一样情况。至于这些个体是否同时陷入泥潭、抑或是分别遭殃,则尚未明了。[7]对岩块进一步检验发现其中的犹他盗龙数量可能是先前推测的两倍之多。[20]

尽管对恐龙行为的推测仅止于理论层面,2020年的研究发现恐爪龙可能缺乏类似某些现生掠食动物的复杂社会行为,因为成体和年轻体有不同食性偏好,代表它们不会以家庭为单位生活。目前尚未证实如此缺乏复杂合作性的社会模式是否也可套用到犹他盗龙。[21]

犹他盗龙来自雪松山层下部层位,称为黄猫段(Yellow Cat Member)。据描述论文所述,犹他盗龙在早白垩世拱门国家公园古动物群中的主要肉食性动物生态栖位占有重要地位,可能袭击比自身更大的猎物。若此属实则3.5公尺/70公斤的个体狩猎时可撂倒8公尺/1至2吨的猎物。此外20公尺左右的蜥脚类可能作为犹他盗龙的重要食物来源。[1]霍茨推测犹他盗龙生存于1亿3000万至1亿2500万年前。[6]许多情境均将黄猫段年代指向巴列姆阶阿普第阶。2010年分析修正成贝里亚阶凡蓝今阶,但不受其他研究人员广泛接受。[22]2019年透过先进的辐射及孢粉学测年发现黄猫段确实比过去所认为还古老,约沉积于1亿3900万±130万至1亿3460万±170万年前/贝里亚阶-凡蓝今阶晚期。由于发现新种孢粉存在,临时假定了贝里亚阶中期-豪特里维阶[23]但黄猫段有明显的上下层区分,而犹他盗龙仅出产自上层,其活跃年代约1亿3500万至1亿3000万年前。[24]

植物群[编辑]

犹他盗龙栖息的黄猫段当时是个半干旱环境,有泛滥平原、流域森林、开放林地,主要由松柏门蕨类角藓门与其他维管束植物组成。[23]米耶拉龙的描述还提到当地有亲水沼泽湿地。[25]相信雨季短暂,因为在花粉痕迹发现烧焦的孢子、碳化植物碎屑,显示缺乏降水时期容易发生森林火灾[18][23]

动物群[编辑]

除恐龙以外的其他动物有鱼类角齿鱼英语Ceratodus背注鱼英语Semionotus乌龟Trinitichelys;某种水鸟足迹;喙头目Toxolophosaurus;未定弓鲨科[24]

其馀古动物遗骸大多未命名或分类不明,如单一个20公分长中真鳄类头骨;[24]一种新离龙类部分左股骨;[28]显示早白雪松山有高多样性的水生群落。[24]某种具背帆的禽龙类标本有大型脊椎和碎片遗骸;[29]还有某种真驰龙类的尾椎及尾巴碎片(UMNH VP 20209)。[30]

1995年罗伯特·巴克的小说《赤盗英语Raptor Red》(Raptor Red)是关于一小群犹他盗龙的虚构故事,聚焦于一只雌性。此作得到主流评论界的积极评价,但对化石证据的缺乏导致古生物学术失准持保留态度,而随著时代演进与学界知识的更新,使某些故事情节变得过时不准确。[31][32]巴克对赤色之角色的拟人化特别受赞扬。[33][34][35]

Paul Zindel的小说《Raptor》也出现犹他盗龙,但拥有虚构的特征,包括趾爪上的有毒分泌物,用来解释长达6500万年演化的副作用。

Ryan North从2003年起连载的网路数格漫画《Dinosaur Comics》里,犹他盗龙是一个主要角色,扮演质疑与提问的角色。漫画在提问与回答间传授许多恐龙的相关知识。[36]
