Instagram是一個免费图片分享应用软件，在2010年10月首次发布。它可以让用户用智能手机拍下照片后再将不同的滤镜效果添加到照片上，包括Facebook或Twitter等社交網絡服務或者是Instagram的服务器上。[1] 一個顯著的特點是，它為正方形形狀的照片，類似柯達的寶麗圖像，通常所使用的移動設備的相機的縱橫比為16:9。

Instagram的創建由Kevin Systrom和Mike Krieger，並於2010年10月推出。該服務迅速得到普及，擁有超過100萬註冊用戶（約90萬每月活躍用戶數）[2] 在2013年1月。Instagram可以通過蘋果App Store和Google play商店下載[3] 。開始時只可用於的iPhone，iPad和iPod Touch等設備，在2012年4月，支持加入運行2.2 Froyo的Android攝像頭手機。
2012年4月9日，社交網站服务巨头facebook宣布以10亿美元的惊人价格收购Instagram。[4] 交易以3億美元現金加2,300萬股Facebook股票的方式進行

使用條款爭議 [编辑]
Instagram的2012年12月17日宣布改變其使用條款，引起了其用戶群的普遍抗議。引起爭議的條款大致內容： "Instagram 有權出售用戶的相片給商家而沒有任何補償給你。"
而且並沒有明顯的選項選擇退出或更改使用條款。[5]
此舉受到了包括私隱倡導者以及消費者的嚴厲批評。一天後，Instagram道歉，並刪除使用條款中有爭議的內容。[6] Instagram的聯合創始人Kevin Systrom，回應了爭議，指出，
我們的目的是溝通，我們想嘗試與創新的廣告，作出感覺合適Instagram的更新條款。相反，它被誤釋很多，我們要推銷自己的照片給別人，沒有任何補償。這是不正確的，這是我們的錯誤，條款內容有混亂。要明確：這不是我們有意出售您的照片。我們正在更新的語言上的條款，以確保條款內容是清楚的。[7]

无法刷新动态 [编辑]
从2013年5月10日起，有中国大陆网友在百度贴吧和微博中抱怨，連接中國移動的網路後Instagram應用无法刷新动态、官方網站打不開，但使用翻墙技术可以正常使用。有人怀疑是被中国移动封锁，但目前无法查证其真实性。
