前印欧语

前印欧语指的是在印欧民族分布扩张至史前欧洲和南亚各地区前，这些地区所使用的语言，并非单一语言，而这些语言之间也不一定互有关联。现存最古老的前印欧语文献，可追溯至19世纪，见于现今土耳其中部的灰山（Kültepe）地区，推估语言相当多样，这些前印欧语据信最晚至公元前三千年仍有发展（参见原始印欧语），因此，我们可以预测这些前印欧语的发展应当早于或平行于后来取代他们的印欧诸语。[1][2][3]
一些前印欧语至今仍然留存；例如欧洲的巴斯克语，虽然母语使用者少于一百万人，但仍保有其本土生命力。与之相对地，又譬如，南亚的达罗毗荼语系各语言分布区域辽阔，且合计有超过2亿的母语使用者。一些语言只留存于印欧语言的历史底层之中。而有些语言（如伊特拉斯坎语）仍有石刻铭文记录。
定义[编辑]
第二次世界大战之前，所有的未分类的欧洲及近东地区的语言都被称为亚洲语言（Asianic languages）；此术语涵盖多个语言，一些语言后来被证实是印欧语（如吕底亚语）或是其他语系中已消亡的语言（如胡里安语、乌拉尔图语等）。1953年，语言学家约翰内斯·霍布施米特识别出至少五个西欧的前印欧语语系：欧非语（Eurafrican），分布涵盖非洲北部、意大利、西班牙和法国；西班牙-高加索语（Hispano-Caucasian），取代欧非语，并自西班牙北部一路延伸至高加索山 ；伊比利语（Iberian），在罗马帝国征服伊比利半岛前，分布涵盖西班牙多数地区；利比亚语（Libyan），主要分布于北非，但也有部分延伸至萨丁尼亚岛；以及伊特拉斯坎语，分布于意大利北部。[4] “前印欧语”这个名称并未被普遍接受，一些语言学家认为这些语言的先民抵达分布地的时间应较晚，甚至可能后于印欧民族；也因此他们较偏好使用“非印欧语”来称呼这些语言。而近期又有以“古欧洲语”指来指称在欧洲的前印欧语，但此一术语便不适用于分布于欧洲以外（如伊朗或印度）的语言。
目前仍存在的语言[编辑]
目前仍存在的前印欧语，条列如下：[5]
- 南亚地区：达罗毗荼语系、蒙达语族、尼哈利语、库孙达语、维达语和布鲁夏斯基语
- 高加索地区：南高加索语系、东北高加索语系、西北高加索语系。
- 伊比利半岛：巴斯克语。
- 欧亚大陆北部：古西伯利亚语言和乌拉语系，不过一些证据表明在芬乌语族之前还有印欧语底层以及古欧洲语底层。[6]

一些印欧语中推测或已确定的的底层语言包括：
- 安纳托利亚语中的底层：哈提语。
- 亚美尼亚语中的底层：胡里安语、乌拉尔图语
- 吠陀梵语中的底层，推测包含：
- 西欧尚未分化或部分分化时的印欧语中的底层：
- 古欧洲水名（可能为印欧语）
- 巴斯克语底层
- 提尔塞尼亚语
- 亚特兰提斯（闪米特）语（不被主流语言学者接受）
- 前希腊语底层，可能包含：
- 前日耳曼语底层
- 前凯尔特语底层：
- 前意大利语族底层：

另外，也有印欧语取代其他印欧语的情况，最显著的就是日尔曼语、罗曼语对于凯尔特语的取代，起因于罗马帝国统治以及日耳曼民族入侵。
但同时，这样的语言取代必须与更近期的语言取代有所区隔。特别是因为殖民时期强势语言多半为印欧语，在过去几世纪以来也形成了一些类似的语言孤岛。如美洲原住民语言（被英、西、葡、法、德语等包围）以及一些乌拉语（被俄语包围）。一些以印欧语为基底的克里奥尔语也因此产生。
