Android "Oreo" （開發代號Android O）是Android移動操作系統的第8個大版本。2017年3月21日，首個開發者預覽版發布，相當於alpha版本；第二個開發者預覽版於2017年5月17日發布，相當於beta版本；第三個開發者預覽版於2017年6月8日發布，確定正式版本中的API[3]。2017年7月24日，第四個開發者預覽版發布，帶有最新的錯誤修復和系統優化，確定正式版本中的系統行為[4]。2017年8月21日，正式版發布，當天美國正經歷一次日食。
Google為代表此次更新的甜點雕塑揭幕的地點是紐約曼哈頓的14街公園，就在第一塊奧利奧的生產工廠附近[5]。

2017年3月21日，Google發布Android "O"的第一個開發者預覽（DP）版[6][7][8]，支持Nexus 5X、Nexus 6P、Nexus Player、Pixel C和兩款Pixel智能手機[9]。第二版於2017年5月17日發布，質量相當於beta版[10]。第三版發布於2017年6月8日[3]，第四版，也就是最終預覽版本，發布於2017年7月24日。
在DP3中，正式版本所用API確定為API level 26[3]，相機界面出現調整，狀態欄的Wi-Fi和蜂窩信號標誌位置改回至Wi-Fi在左，通知欄中通知可根據內容變色，設置→電池處新增電池動畫，時鐘應用圖標更新且默認背景更暗，各應用圖標形狀選項新增「淚滴狀」（形狀接近圓滑的聊天氣泡）[11]。
2017年8月18日，Google上線以日食為主題的預熱網站，宣布Android O的發布日期定於8月21日，正式名稱也會在同日公布，而這一天美國正好會發生日食[12]。8月21日，Google正式為支持的Nexus和Pixel設備發布新版出廠鏡像[13]，同時宣布系統名為「Oreo」，代表納貝斯克公司生產的奧利奧餅乾[14]。

各種應用通知會按類別分類至不同的組（「渠道」），用戶還可暫時延後某條通知[15][16]。Android Oreo整合了對畫中畫模式的支持[17][18]，還簡化了添加自定義鈴聲、鬧鐘聲和通知聲的過程[19][20]。「設置」應用經過全新設計，主題色改為白色，強化對各項設置的分類[21]。此外，Android TV亦獲得了新的主界面[22]。Google聲稱新版系統從關機狀態啟動所需時間更短[23]，以及通過限制後台應用增加了電池可用時間[24]。

Android Oreo新增對Wi-Fi的Wi-Fi Aware基礎上周邊感知聯網（NAN）規範[25]和應用內寬色域的支持[26]，提供API供自動填寫程序使用，使WebView支持多進程和Google安全瀏覽功能，允許VoIP應用使用新增的API集成至系統層面，支持應用功能在遠程顯示設備上啟動[6]。Android Runtime（ART）性能獲得改進[6]，緩存處理能力增強[27]。Android Oreo對後台應用活動施以更多限制，藉此提升電池使用時間[28]。應用可選用「自適應圖標」以支持各種主題下不同的圖標形狀要求，如圓形、方形和圓角矩形[29]。
Android Oreo中新增數十個新繪文字，這些繪文字將被納入Unicode 10標準。系統將使用重新設計的新繪文字字體，各繪文字的面部均改為傳統的圓形，拋棄了Android "KitKat"以來一直採用的「blob」設計。[30][31]
此次更新修訂了Android底層架構，支持設備硬件工作所用的底層廠商代碼將通過一個稱為「供應商接口」的硬件抽象層與Android操作系統框架分離，供應商接口需與Android未來版本保持向前兼容。理論上來說，為設備提供Android的新版本更新時，設備廠商只需對系統框架和預裝應用做出必要修改，供應商接口將保持不變。[32]Android 7.0引入的「無縫更新」概念亦獲調整，下載更新文件時現可跳過用戶分區而直接下載至系統分區，減輕系統更新對存儲空間的需求[33]。
系統為內存不超過1GB的所有低配設備提供特別版本Android Go。這些設備出廠時的平台優化可減少數據流量使用（包括默認啟用流量節省模式），還將搭載資源和帶寬消耗更少的特別版Google移動服務（如YouTube Go）。Google Play商店亦會突出顯示適合這些設備使用的輕量級應用。[34][35]
